The course was interesting and you can use the material for other humanities courses. However, her lectures were basically pointless. Go to your tutorials and you should be fine. Her lectures are ramblings about what she's interested in, and have absolutely nothing to do with the course. All help/info i used for essays were from tutorial

Awful class!! Dont take!!! Hands down worst professor Ive ever had. Doesnt explain anything clearly and makes you feel stupid. The course content is so confusing and doesnt relate to the course description. She teaches what shes interested in not what the course needs.

My only advice to anyone looking to take HUMA 1951 as a general ed course: dont. I am halfway through this course and can honestly say I am wasting my time and money. Her lectures are unengaging, no slides, no interaction, she just speaks for 2 hours. She gives pop quizzes that are 1 question worth 5% of final grade, 3 in total (15%). Awful.

Decent prof. She goes off topic time to time. Topics are all about the past, nothing modern. Not too bad of a marker though.

This class is definitely not hard to pass as long as you read ALL the course kit readings. Lectures are pointless and do not make any sense whatsoever. Ur basically forced to go to every class because she puts three random pop quizzes spread out throughout the year. Orr goes off into random spiels about nonsense half the time! overall easy A tho

Lots of texts to use, full chapter books assigned as readings, off topic sometimes, really smart, kind of harsh

Content is not current. If you get a good TA you'll pass otherwise no clarity from this prof.

She talks a lot about meditation, which was the only useful component of the class. (Look up mindfulness meditation, it helps with the stress level of uni) Aside from that I was confused in every single lecture and I kept up with the readings. Avoid if possible.

Nice woman, but tends to get off topic way to fast. No use in following her lecture notes because they don't make sense and she rarely talks about anything on it. Very interesting course and great course material, but not the best lecturer. As a TA she is great and generates great class conversation. Pretty easy marker, but not very consistent.

Orr is terrible! She never focuses on what she supposes to teach, she is not very knowledgable and she always seems like she wants to be somewhere else. This course can be so great, but she makes it horrible. I hated every minute of her lectures, luckily I had a nice TA

She doesn't even show up for mid-terms. This Professor does not care at all for the student's benefit, only for her millions of cats. She's a spinster.

Terrible prof. Incomprehensible & unapproachable. The only reason I did so well was b/c of my amazing TA. Too many readings - you barely have time to understand one before the next is assigned (2/week) Extremely boring & often off-topic. Stops lecturing at the slightest noise. No-laptop policy is terrible for those who prefer to take notes that way

Read the material assigned, go over the webCT notes provided, and show up to class and tutorial. In other words, be a student and you'll find her lectures are helpful in understanding the course material. She knows what she is talking about.

Comment:
Lectures often have nothing to do with the readings, and their content (Plato, Augustine) doesn't obviously relate to the themes of the course (gender), so your understanding depends on how competent your TA is. Also, the course content is dated and often really problematic, but, again, this is only discussed in tutorial.
