Amazing professor. She really care and the lectures are very interesting. I never got bored in class, unless we were watching a boring video. One of the best teachers Ive taken so far at uncc. Mostly talk about racial problems in the world. If youre interested in stuff like that, take the class.

Writing-intensive course. This is definitely not an easy A, but I must say that she actually cares. Again, this is a tough class, but as long as you're willing to work you will pass

This was the easiest class i've ever taken. We had an assignment where we had to go to an event on campus or museum about African culture and take a selfie (to prove you were there). I didn't even do it. I googled an event and did not upload a picture and still got a 100. This class is a joke, you will pass just do the work.

Comment:

Dr. Smith is great. There are 3 exams, a Powerpoint presentation and a book report required. The exams can be a bit difficult but if you study you will do fine. I recommend her as she is easy to reach and advises you on what is needed in the beginning of class.

We definitely did a lot of readings in Dr. Smith's class. They were very interesting and informative though. There is a group project, and an essay due at the end of the semester. The finals and exams are easy if you show up to class and take notes on readings and videos.

There's a pop quiz everyday, so basically that's your attendance. You watch a movie every class so expect to be in there the full 3 hours. She's an awesome person and definitely makes the class interesting and engaging but she like purposely tries to make test hard or something. She literally goes the extra mile to make them harder. Good luck!

I AM RETAKING THIS COURSE THE FIRST TIME WITH ANOTHER PROFESSOR IT WAS DREADFUL BUT THIS TIME AROUND IT'S MY FAVORITE COURSE DUE TO DR. Chapters are like 60-100 pages long. Grade made up of 4 quizzes online, midterm, final, and pop quizzes when she feels students arent paying attention. Doesnt post your average grade until the very end of the semester. I dont recommend her unless you like reading. interesting class but she made it dreadful

I took this class because I just needed an elective for credit. Don't take this if you aren't majoring or minoring in Africana Studies. Professor Smith wasn't bad though. It's just tough material & a lot of reading. The tests are hard because there's not enough time and you can only answer one question at a time. If you read, you'll do fine though!

Dr. Smith is great. She is understanding and definitely approachable. Show that you are interested through discussion within her lectures and she will like you more. Tests were pretty direct if you were remotely alive in class. Would take again.

I enjoyed Ms. Smith's online class. Although this is an online class you will have to do required reading to pass test. Class and readings are great. Test were easy as long as you have read. If you put in effort you'll do well. There is 2-3 weeks to get required reading done but these readings take less time than that.

I think she may be a great professor for face to face instruction. However, she seems very poor in the area of communication for her online classes. She always seems uninterested in her emails back to you, or as if its a hassle to communicate with her. Class syllabus is pretty laid out. Grading is definitely more than fair.

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE. Worst online class I have ever taken. Required too much for an online, 1100 course. Test were ridiculous. Only have 30 minutes to take a 50 question test and you cannot go back to the previous question. This course use to be super easy but she changed things

One of UNCC's finest. Dr. Smith is a very caring person and is passionate about what she teaches. I really learned a lot. Her test are easy and very clear. She's quick to respond back to you. She will help you in any way she can. Trust me, you will want to take any one of her classes because she teaches you alot without the heavy load. An easy A.

Excellent professor! Very knowledgeable and very clear. She made the class very interesting and I feel I learned a great deal. Every film she presented was relevant, informative and entertaining. Would recommend her to anyone!

This course is the intro to Africana Studies. The information that is provided is very interesting. Since the course is online Professor Smith does email students on what will be going on during the week. Tests, quizzes, and the paper you'll have are all reflected on the material you're provided online and from the books. Overall pretty good class

Dr. Smith is thebomb.com! She's a great professor. I've taken her for Black Images in Media & Foundations of Education. She's very clear and not too demanding. She knows the material well and she makes class fun and interesting! I would definitely take her class again.
