Dr. D is a kind person who truly loves her students! I adored her teaching style which was lecture-based. I thought she gave us a very manageable amount of work and excellent feedback. Her class may seem like a ton of work if you're just coming from high school, but it's so worth it. I really respect this fabulous woman.

Comment:

Dee James is the kindest, most wonderful person and teacher at Unca! She is truly a great person to be around. She tries to get everyone to participate, and her joy of life is infectious. Would love to take her again! Instead of a final we're watching and talking about a movie. Take her!!

She likes to contradict herself. She is a nice person but grades rather harshly and comments can be quite condescending. Her explanations and attempted clarifications do not help. She does like to listen to herself talk. Short notice for some assignments. Bad with time management. Thinks her class is the only class sometimes.

A nice person in general outside of academia but isn't necessarily suited for the classroom setting. Doesn't give grades (weird), very ignorant of all things technology even though she relies on it in class a lot (annoying), and doesn't give much time to write long papers (extremely frustrating).

This instructor was horrible. The most difficult an incomprehensible course I have ever taken. Graded extremely hard, contradicted herself, and made you feel like you are stupid. Do not take this class.

She likes to try to clarify things over and over and over again which makes assignments much more confusing. She also likes to give extremely short notice for long papers. Her comments on essays are condescending and contradict what her original assignment.She is a nice person, but she likes to hear herself talk. An 1hr 15min class of her talking.

Took African American poetry with her...LOVED this class. Dr. James is brilliant and is just a lovely individual. She is my favorite professor and any lit/writing major should take her.

Dr. James is one of those professors who acts like their class is the only class a student is taking. She assigns seemingly endless amounts of work, grades unnecessarily hard, and becomes very standoffish when she feels that students are upset with her "teaching". Maybe she was sweet and helpful years ago, but not anymore.
