Comment:
Very knowledgeable and if you go to office hours, he's more approachable than in class. Like others have said, he can be a bit condescending which makes you not want to participate. Make sure you study his interpretations don't make your own or you wont get much credit. Interesting class but no grading criteria. He's not that organized either

I took his class on Dante's Inferno, and I recommend it to anyone who has even a remote interest in the subject. Prof. Costa really knows his stuff, and I learned so much from this class. He is very good about meeting outside of class, and he's a great guy to talk to as well. He loves this subject, and it shows in his lectures.

Professor Costa is an expert scholar of Dante's epic poem. Lectures cover the sheer genius of the poem and provide insight into Dante's world and work. Professor's decade of experience are evident in his passion and the ease with which he conveys knowledge to students. A course you shouldn't miss, especially if you are of Italian descent.

He obviously knows his material and is very insightful.. I just wish he paid more attention to the students who are actually working toward a degree and pay to go to BU and realized how distracting the Evergreen students are.

I did well in the class because I'm good with that material. Terrible for discussions. SOOOO boring and related everything back to Dante though we cover that the NEXT year so it didn't help and confused things more.Nice guy, lenient when I forgot to do a paper but if you want interactive discussions and to express your thoughts, not the guy to take

Prof Costa's classes were VERY boring. I was counting every minute of every class. He is a nice person, but did not know the texts very well. He would basically summarize the texts and call it 'discussion.' Do not take this class from him.

Prof. Costa is very helpful & easy but that may be b/c English has always been easy for me. He's VERY thorough w/ the texts. Only thing that bothered me was how he'd pause a lot & say "um," & how he always drew nonsensical diagrams on the board (ie: lines & circles that didn't really relate to what he was saying) But overall, he's a very good prof!

Costa is very enthusiastic about literature, especially, of course, Dante. He tends to talk down to his students. Sometimes his arrogance is hard to take. He certainly knows his stuff though.
