This class is easy not because Dr. Downey gives out A's but simply because he creates an enviroment where one is not over burdened with threats of quizzes every two seconds, therefore one can actually concentrate on the material for which he has so much knowledge and passion. Take him 250%

Comment:

History 251. Very nice guy but a little tight on grading. If you suck with essays this is the class to avoid cuz he only gives essays. His voice is mono-tone so it's hard to stay focused after an hour.. best thing is tho that his essay tests are open notes! and in addition an essay assignment is assigned. I think he's retiring soon-just a heads up

Dr. Downey makes this history class interesting. His choice in books may be a little dry, but it IS history afterall. He has a good sense of humor and the atmosphere is relaxed but attentive. Be warned: he gives only essay tests.

I highly recommend this class. Dr. Downey has a passion for this era and it shows throughout his lectures. Just do the readings and pay attention in class and you'll do fine. Brownie points for Jimmy Buffet quotes.

I had Dr. Downey for 3 straight semesters and he is hands down the best professor at Millersville. He is extremely knowledgeable and really makes you think. I highly recommend taking at least one class with him.

Took his trip to Ireland. He was very passionate about everything, but forgot not all of us were getting paid to be there or had rich daddies. His price quotes back in the States were low, and some of us were pretty broke by the end. All in all, a good class, but tack on a couple of hundred more than he says it will cost

seriously guys, easiest class of my life. go to class, take notes on the lectures, and laugh at his jokes and youre good to go. i think he's actually pretty interesting (even if he does quote and requote jimmy buffet a little too much...)

Good professor. You will get a good grade if you write about stuff that was not in the lecture i.e. information found in the readings. 3 essay tests decide your grade. He says attendence factors in but really doesn't mark absences. If you like Jimmey Buffet, you will like him because he quotes him all the time.
