Dr. Horton is an intelligent, caring, absolutely competent, and professional trumpet teacher. I spent about 1.5 years with him as my private trumpet instructor in 1977 to 1979 - that period of time was the most productive time I've ever experienced with regard to learning to play the trumpet, and adding to my repertoire.

Dr. Horton is an amazing professor with a great wealth of knowledge on anything trumpet related. Lessons are very beneficial and so long as the person in question does their homework and practices there should be NO issues. One of the best professors I have had

Dr. Horton is one of the smartest individuals I have ever met. I love to take trumpet lessons with him. It's the people who do not practice that are having problems. If you expect to blow off lessons as a music major, maybe you should rethink your career choice instead of taking it out on the old man...

I took him for SSET..and its amazing that, as a transfer student, I can Make a 100 in the SAME CLASS at my old school and struggle here. He doest assign hw or even teach...he asks us what we want to go over...and just practices...no tricks or methods taught....he IS THE WORST TEACHER IVE HAD IN MY years in college...and thats saying something

A true failure as a teacher and trumpet player. Possibly some of the most worthless times of my life have been spent with Dr. Horton. I have paid money and worked hard to get nowhere with this man. I feel sorry for anyone that has studied under him or ever will study under him. He has never inspired me.

if you want to still enjoy music during and after college, don't study with this guy. he can never remember anything from lesson to lesson, he imposes unrealistic expectations on people, and he plays favorites to the point that it is ridiculous. i'm counting down the days until i never have to take lessons again.

He scares me. I never ever saw him smile. I waited all of my years at Central to take Instrumentation and Scoring because he was the only one who taught it and I was dreading it, and when I finally had to take it, Dr. Gillingham was teaching it!
