Comment:

Dr. Merino is a great person but I am not a big fan of his teaching. If you have taken calculus before, then the class will be easier. There are people like me that have taken it before and say its hard. Calculus is hard in general.

He kinda goes over what you need to do once real quick and usually doesn't even talk while he does it. and then after that you just try out problems in class and he just wanders around. His advice is terrible and he is incredibly condescending. If a student asks for help you don't literally say "What do you mean you don't understand. It's easy".

He is a gem! He summarizes and simplifies the topics at the beginning of class, then has the class work on problems individually as he goes around gives feedback. No mandatory homework, and he gives partial credit. You really have to show up to learn though (Calc 2 is hard!). He's also hilarious and helps everyone succeed if they're willing

No homework, no study guides. If you are a learner that learns through trial & error or correction on your papers. Don't take this class. Speech is hard to understand. Introduces problems, expects you to know it on the first try. Thinks a tutor is all you need. Gives test reviews, but does not help. So you don't know if you are prepared for test.

I am taking Merino for Math 162 this semester, and he is an excellent teacher. The way he teaches may be a little difficult to understand, but the tests are exactly like the study guides.

Merino is a very good Math professor! I had failed calculus 1 two times and he helped me pass it. He explained everything that i had never understood. He made me do the work myself to make sure that I knew how to do it when the test came. If I had to take another math class I would take him!

He was a great professor, and help a lot in and outside of class. He was straight forward about what needed to be done. He posted practice exams for every exam that was coming up. He was pretty fun in class and enjoyed joking with us, which helped math class more interesting and pass quicker.

Hard to understand, expects you to understand the first time he explains it. If you ask for help on a problem he just says "do it!" rather than guiding you on your next move. He provided a lot of practice problems, but they were not much help when you don't know what you are doing.

Would strongly advise against this taking this teacher. He is hard to understand because of his accent and expects everyone to be as smart as he is. In class will go on these sort of rants when someone asked a question about something. If you ask for extra help he just tells you to go to tutoring rather than helping you.

He will help you if you are stuck, but he isn't always clear. He likes to joke with you until you get it, even if you are struggling. He'll give you sample exams which help, but the lack of homework results in a lack of practice. You'll never really know if you're working problems right, as he doesn't provide correct answers. It isn't too bad.

TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO SURVIVE CALCULUS!!! I would not have been able to pass this class without him! He is tough but if you go to class and pay attention he really makes the material easy! The only thing is that he does not use the textbook at all, but it is not as bad as it seems! TAKE HIM, TAKE HIM, TAKE HIM!!

At first he can be a little intimidating. I took him for Math 165 during the summer. The first few classes had me dragging my feet. I love math but his way was hard to understand. However after a few more classes I really liked it. He is challenging but that is good. I would recommend him if you are willing to work hard for the class.

I agree with the comments that he was a little hard to understand, but you will get used to it. Does a great job and is always willing to help you if needed. Grades on effort as well. He's a funny guy too so keep an open mind as he will pick on you a little bit every now and then. I plan on taking him for Math 200

he stresses calculator use!!!! which is perfect! lectures are working problems on board. he is a little hard to understand. he doesnt answer questions well or explain anything when he does answer. if it werent for his USE calculator policy, i'd not recommend him. Dr. Reyes does not allow them so, I am glad I took merino!

Although he is easier on teachers he will help girls if you ask! He is willing to help you, if you can make him laugh he won't get frustrated with you! I hate math but he's actually helped me understand it and I have an A average in the class so far...
