Derek explains topics thoroughly and provides plenty of opportunity for feedback. Unfortunately, he provides very little digital lecture material which makes attendance and good note taking mandatory. The labs are less complex than the test material which can make understanding the material thoroughly somewhat difficult.

Super easy marker, which is nice because you'll be teaching this course to yourself. He misses labs and lectures all the time, and can't do anything but copy terrible notes onto the board for us to copy. Left us completely unprepared for the final!

I took intro to programming with Derek. He is a good teacher and very knowledgeable and interested in electrical engineering and comp sci, unfortunately he was teaching the course to Mech students. The course was extremely easy, and the exams were open book. Basically if you attended all classes and labs you got an A+.
