I loved Dr. Mrs. Dixon! She's so funny and always interested in the lives of her students. She invited our class to her house twice to watch movies (for the course) and had food for us. :)

The exams are hard to study for because her lectures do not go very in-depth. However, you can ace the quizzes by using Sparknotes. Still, it does not make the class easier. She doesn't really explain her lectures, and she says, "Yeah...well...you know...anyway..." and will move on without explaining anything. Bottom line: Don't take her class!

Comment:
She's "well read" in the sense that she has skimmed a whole bunch of stuff. However she's entirely incompetent when it comes to analysis. Class often centered around discussions of how we personally related to the text. If we couldn't understand it she simply said it was because we were westerners. Complete waste.

She is not interested in actually getting anything out of what's read in class and while she made be widely read her comprehension is nill. Unless you really need one of the classes she's offering go with someone else. She also cuts students off regularly in class and just running with some partial or different idea than the one they had in mind.

I chose this teacher based on some of the reviews on this site, but she is not easy at all. As an engineer I have no time for huma classes and she makes it as hard as a core class. If you're not an english major, you'll find it difficult. Her tests are ridiculous and weekly quizes you would need to read the book twice to get a perfect score

Comment:
Her quizzes are basically small tests. Within each question she asks two questions which basically means you're taking a 30 question fill in the blank test every other class. Her tests are comprised of paragraph long multiple choice questions that agrees with every answer in some way. Because of this the tests are purely subjective. Don't take her.

Overall decent professor, but she does have her faults. On occasion you'll get a "And it's like... well... a... oh you know , right?" And then she moves on to the next point without explaining her last point! Easy enough, just read what she says.

Easy class if you do the reading and pay attention to the lecture/discussion. Dr. Dixon is really enthusiastic, and kind of fun to listen to, but sometimes the oddest points are dwelt on. Overall, a good class taught by a good prof.

CRRRRRRRRRAZY. English courses are more insightful and fair than Civ Lit. Civ Lit tests are compiled of ridiculously long multiple choice questions with 4 equally valid answers. Fair other than Civ Lit tests. English tests couldn't be more different. Always scatter brained. Will punch your computer shut if you sit in the front. Total feminist.

So scatter-brained, can't stay focused for more than 5 minutes - pretty liberal - a woman's rights kinda girl. Easy class but she made it miserable - definitely don't take her for Tues/Thurs classes because you'll want to kill yourself!

if you want challenge, avoid. solid lit, good outlines, but easy stuff if you just pay an ounce of attention. be ready to talk, she'll listen to anything. don't expect to learn much from lecture - she just highlights the good stuff. which is fine with me. easy A compared to other grove lit profs.

Very fickle and inconsistent and says lots of things without thinking about them beforehand. Focuses more on impressing the students (and not succeeding) than on actually teaching the material.

Her class was a joke, and she as a person was almost as bad. Had a very obvious "distaste" for students in class and their ideas/comments. If you think like she does, you're set. If you have a brain of your own, you're going to struggle.
