He masterfully presents our Constitution from an original text perspective, and hammers home the importance of utilizing "strict scrutiny" in judicial review. He is an American Treasure...

He jumps all over the place and makes me want to drop out of school. The Professor really likes to make exams hard. I hated this professor so much. One of the worst professors I have ever had. Jumps around too much, never goes over the book and the test is literally ALL book. Outside reading that he doesn't have you buy so you MUST go to the library. I would NOT recommend him.

Cannot stress this enough if you do not care about the subject material DO NOT TAKE VAN TASSEL! With that being said he was one of my favorite professors at YCP. He really teaches you how to argue any side of an issue and if you really buy in will be a debate pro at the end. I had a blast but I'm a bit of a Constitution nerd. READING IS Necessary

If you love political science then he has a lot of insight to learn from. But if you're only taking this class to fill an ADR then you might want to reconsider. He is very difficult and not clear about what will be on the exams. Every class is lecture after lecture and wasn't worth dropping my gpa for.

Van Tassell..he puts you on the spot for questions and if you volunteer to answer a question and get it wrong...he will make you feel dumb. he moves so slow through classes that we ended up taking only 2 of the 4 exams. do not take him if you cant stand the heat that he brings with his grilling questions and responses to answers

He is probably one of the most challenging professors I have had. Despite being challenging though, he is a good teacher and you do learn a lot. He doesn't tend to cover what's in the book in his lectures but a good portion of testing material comes from the book.

If you are taking this to fulfill your ADR VanTassell will challenge you more than other professors. However if you are PS major or have any real interest TAKE HIM because you will learn so much about the government by attending all of his classes and studying from both the book and his lectures. Plus he's super helpful if you just ask!

Whoever said he was easy...no. Do well on the paper and project, his tests are freaking impossible. I failed the first, studied hard for the second and only moved up to a D. Lectures are boring...class discussions were the only interesting part. AVOID THIS TEACHER LIKE THE PLAGUE (unless you like ridiculous tests)

Horrible professor. He rambles the whole class. Two tests, one paper, and a final. He never discusses what will be on the test and is terrible at responding to emails. I sent him at least 6 emails during the semester and he never responded to one. If you end up having him, try and switch as soon as possible. You will regret staying in his class.

This man is ridiculously inconsistent. First semester I had him, took the notes and read the book and got an A. Second semester with the second part of the class I did the same thing and got a C. He makes up what he wants to teach as he goes and is so biased it will drive you crazy if you disagree with him at all. To avoid stress...avoid him.
