He's great! If you don't have a good grip in calc, don't take this class. You'll struggle. Quizzes and tests are based off of the homework, so if you do every problem AND understand how you arrived at the answers, you should be solid. Time yourself when you take the practice exams b/c he's going to work you until the last minute on the real ones.

Excellent teacher. Practice the homework and stay ahead so the lectures are more understandable. He doesn't grade homework since he has answer key for them, but weekly quizzes are close to homework so do it. Tests, I would say majority of the time it's close to HW, but a few times a problem appeared from lab. It was a terrific learning experience.

He really knows his stuff! He's a great professor and has ways of making the lecture interesting. Semi-tough grader on lab reports. There were almost weekly quizes that weren't too hard. He gives you practice tests and they help a lot! Do the homework, practice tests, and lab and you'll do just fine.

Dierk is hands down the best physics prof I've ever had. He makes lectures fun makes sure you are interacting when he asks the class questions. DO THE HOMEWORK AND PRACTICE EXAMS! I cannot stress enough how helpful they are! Don't be afraid to use his office hours as well, he is willing to do so much to help you succeed! Also NEVER skip lab!

Amazing teacher, fun subject and he makes sure you learn it that way in a very easy to learn manner. includes written out steps to complete the optional homework, so you can see how it is done. You can also receive previous copies of exams to practice from. You wont be bored, just put in the work and it's an easy pass.

Make sure to take this professor because he makes physics intuitive and not boring. I used to hate physics but now I am considering working in a job with significant amount of physics because of this professor. The class is fast-paced and if you go to class, take notes, do the homework, and go to his office hours, you should be golden.

If you have the opportunity to take classes with him do it. He is an amazing professor. It is a tough class with a tough teacher but you will learn the material and enjoy lecture. I wish I could take physics III at AR with Hofreiter.

He gives you every tool possible to learn the material. His lectures cover tough content in an engaging, logical, relatable way. Buy the last semester's test and do them. Then think, how could he make this question harder and do it that way too. Don't fall behind, the pace is relentless. Lab reports don't have "fluff" that other sciences include.

I have taken both Physics 1327 and 1328 with Professor Hofreiter. Do your homework and do it on time. Visit him during his office hours for any legitimate help (don't waste his time). There are weekly quizzes but they're not difficult as long as you stay on top of things. Oh, and there's lab too. Best Professor I have ever had.

Very engaging in lectures. Do the homework and the class will be easy, skip homework don't expect anything above a C. He has passion for physics which makes his class enjoyable. Hes the only physics teacher at ARCC, do homework and you'll be fine otherwise prepare to take another time.

His lectures help you to really understand the material and can be pretty humorous at times. There is a solution manual for the homework that goes through how to do each hw problem in great detail and with explanations where they're needed. He wants to help you if you don't understand something. Possibly the best professor I've had.

One of the best professors I have ever had. He really keeps you engaged in his lectures by asking questions and having you vote on the correct answer. He also has a sense of humor too. He provides a solution manual to all homework questions. Tests & quizes shouldn't be too hard if you show up and do hw. I can see why U of M students take him.

The class is TOUGH, and he makes it a requirement to keep up with the material and homework. He does pop quizzes almost weekly, but if you go to class they should go well. He is extremely helpful with questions and takes time to go over the material thoroughly. I would highly recommend him as a professor. Just be ready to work HARD for your grade.

Physics in general is not an easy subject for most people, so the class is not easy by any means. Dierk is as good as it gets. He's very clear and structures his lectures well. He gives you the last 2 semester exams to practice off, so there are no surprises come exam time. There are pop quizzes throughout the semester though. Make sure to keep up!

Of all the downsides of AR Hof more then makes up for it. Very nice person and easily approachable. To me most of math and the sciences are about building up your troubleshooting skills and he does an excellent job at this.
