Comment:
professor Stuart is extremely knowledgeable on criminal law - ask him basically anything and he'll know any recent developments on the issue. There is a heavy amount of material in this class but super interesting if you love criminal law, especially drug cases. If you work hard, engage and keep up, you'll do well and learn a ton.

If you make an effort in class and do your readings, you will get a good grade. He plays favourites because those people are the ones who are actually trying in his class. I think Stuart's classes are incredibly interesting and I actually appreciate him using the book so much. While he is very opinionated, I like how he tries to engage students

While I can't disagree with the negative comments of previous posters (ie: plays favourites, relies too heavily on his text), I still feel privileged to have taken criminal law with him. His stories are a blast, and his take on criminal law, in hindsight, was enlightening. In fact, I would say that he's better appreciated in hindsight.

Doesn't just play favourites: he finds the five students whom he likes, learns their names, checks all their grades, and ignores the rest. In terms of structure, the class is a fog-filled search through lectures, provincial regulations, and texts for the absolute mastery of code, case law, and statutes needed to achieve a good grade. Bad news.

My previous comments below stand, but this grading reflects his awful instruction (I accidentally graded positively instead of negatively)

I was looking forward to taking a class with Stuart, but was sorely disappointing. Attending his lectures disgusted me. He showed clear favourtism, an inability to engage with students meaningfully, and was constantly focused on point on where he thought he was smarter than the courts or the co-author of the textbook. Disgusting experience

Had him for Evidence and Crim Pro. Didn't do well on his exams but loved him just the same. Great to have a prof who cares about his students and his subject. Yay Stewie!

A brilliant prof. You will either love him or hate him. Stuart is opinionated and plays favourites, but I don't think many people know as much about Canadian criminal law as he does. He really cares about his students and will help them beyond expectations. He is a wonderful prof and just may make you passionate about criminal law!

Stuart is the best prof at the school. His classes are always interesting. Really superb. The people who don't like him are probably just upset that he didn't coddle their "I'm speaking just to hear the sound of my own voice" participation.

Easily one of the most knowledgeable academics in criminal law which he effectivly passes on to his students. His contributions to criminal law are best demonstrated in how many of his former students have become some of the best crim. lawyers in Canada.

This was one of the worst profs i had in law school. He may be well quoted and all, but he just reads from the book he wrote, and sprinkles the 'lecture' with borderline inappropriate comments-- not my cup of tea.

Stewart is a great prof. A leader and expert in Canadian Criminal law. Quoted extensivly. Also, Stewart is a hilarious guy albeit unintentionally. However, Stewart marks based on who he likes and dislikes. Tell him you want to go to the Crown.
