He really is not that hard. Just take good notes. You get to use a one page cheat sheet for exams that HELP alot. He is hard to understand, and yes he talks with his eyes closed but he is so willing to help and will work with you. TAKE HIM!

He is completely helpful if you are willing to work with him during class/office hours. You can't expect every teacher to be overly nice. Yes, he talks with his eyes closed, but that's him. Doesn't necessarily give answers during test, but you can still ask him for guidance with graded questions. He's adorable and nerdy.

Seriously avoid him at all cost if you can. Teaches with his eyes closed, if you're going to miss a class and need to get ahold of him, forget about it. He does not answer emails, or phone calls and not helpful. He takes 20min for a 2min question, thats if he keeps his eyes open to see your hand for the question and still doesn't answer it!

HORRIBLE!! teaches with his eyes closed, makes you feel stupid, goes off on useless tangents that you dont care about, not helpful whatsoever! had to drop class because i was failing...and i'm not the only one either!

Dr. Balenovich just hates teaching Math 100. He thinks we are all stupid. He blames the author for everything. Never checks homework. Talks to you in German. He is funny though if you catch his sense of humor. His tests are a breeze. You get extra credit by answering three multiple choice questions sometimes. No one ever goes to his lectures.

Don't take this professor, seriously. I was good at math until I took this class. I literally sat through every class, not understanding a thing, and taught myself all of the information directly from the textbook. He lets you have a cheat sheet for the test, and you better do well on them, because 4 major tests are the only grades in the class.

Dont do it to yourself. He spends more time talking about how he wants to retire than he does TRYING to teach. Only 280 points in the class, all based off of 4, 70 point tests. So if you do bad on those, you fail! DONT DO IT

I took this guy for stats heres a little about him...he talks with his eyes closed and tells THEE worst jokes ever he tries to tell stories that are realted to the material..doesnt work. He acts like statistics is the most important thing in the world. Is'nt clear, tests are easy but unclear good things he gives extra credit. I give him a NAY!

going into this i really thought i was going to enjoy it. math has always been my thing. then i had him as a professor. he keeps his eyes closed while looking at you and rarely answers a question in a way you'll understand. don teven try to take notes because everything is in the book in a much more clearer way. i passed the class just barely. I took a similar math compared to 101 in highschool & this just confused me more. He refers to the author everytime he tells you how to do something-if you ask a question he makes you look stupid-the tests are few questions & like 10pts per question & not clear-also very very boring class. if you can take someone else DO IT!

If you show that you are really trying in his class he is very helpful and tries to help you succeed. If a students don't seem to care about their grade and don't show up for class then he's not helpful. I thought he was a good professor. Very good professor!!! Dr. Balenovich made me like math 171, and now I am taking other of his classes. If you do not understand something ask, and then he will explain until you understand; and if you go to his office he will help you as well. Recommend!!!

Comment:

Very easy class, attendance not mandatory, and homework is bonus. The problems he uses in class are very similar to the test problems. As far as partial credit for work is concerned; he's one of the best teachers I've ever had. No quizzes and the final is not cumulative.

Good teacher. Willing to take time after class and work with you if you are having trouble. If I needed to take another math, I'd look to take him again.
