Comment:

The realest man in the Psych department. Although I don't like how his grading system works, but I really enjoy going to his lectures. Tests ( only 3 throughout the whole course ) are 50 % lec 50% book so remember to actually put effort into reading. Overall he is a really nice guy and his humor is pretty interesting. Take his class if you can.

Comment:

Hoffman is very knowledgable in the field of psychology, although he is very monotone and class can seem boring at times. Tests are based on lectures and the textbook. There is no other assignments and attendance is not mandatory. Class is curved.

Comment:

Hoffman is very smart and a big part of the psych community and you can see his passion through his lectures. He even makes funny jokes sometimes. Although, you do have to read and attend lecture (even though it isn't mandatory) to get a good grade. Only top 15% receive an A but if you do your textbook reading and pay attention in class ur good

He's incredibly knowledgeable in his field of study (consciousness) and honestly, I found his lectures to be very interesting as well. He says lectures&discussions are not mandatory but you should go, as the exams are I would say 60/40 lecture/book. Talk to him in office hours, he makes for great discussion. 10/10 would die for as well

Psych fundamentals are inevitably test heavy. for his class you just really have to listen closely and read up. mainly lecture based tests. recycles old jokes but everyone will still laugh. he is my inspiration and truly an accomplished thinker of our time. i would 10/10 die for him, that is, if life was real.

Lectures weren't mandatory to attend but the 2 midterms and final are 50% lecture, 50% book so it's suggested to go. The midterms were 40 MC and the final was 50. Prof's can be monotone so may be hard to hear sometimes. Test q's either test understanding or can be simple memorization

Absolutely LOVED this class!!! Professor Hoffman is VERY passionate about what he does and has worked with so many reputable people and companies. 2 midterms (40 mc ?s) + final (50 mc ?s). Exams are 50% textbook, 50% lecture material. No HW, but make sure you go to lecture and READ!! Pretty self- explanatory.

Just before the final exam, the TA says extra credit would not result in grade change. (THEN WHAT IS THE POINT OF EXTRA CREDIT AND WHY DON'T YOU SAY IT EARLIER?)

He says you don't have to go to class, but his tests are 50% textbook and 50% from the lectures. So attend lectures. His lectures were interesting and thought provoking. This class is a little hard for a GE, but it's definitely worth it. He's one of the best professors I had. TAKE HIM.

Comment:

This class is definitely easier if taken with other profs. Only the top 15% of the class can get A's so it is a difficult GE. However, the professor is truly brilliant and helps students a lot during office hours. Office hours and lectures are pretty much mandatory if you are going for the A. I wish he would post his lecture slides online!

Proff Hoffman was someone who really inspired me in the field of psychology when I started to give up on it. He's a solid professor at UCI. As long as you read the book, study the notes, and study SPECIFIC cases and results, you should get a C. All based on a curve and you have to work for that A.

This was by far the most interesting class I have taken in my multiple years of college. As someone else said below, Dr. Hoffman is truly the best of the best and I walked out of class every day feeling honored to have been taught by him. It is not an easy A, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking this class. Attending lectures and reading is necessary.

Professor Hoffman is truly outstanding. He's brilliant at what he does and I found him pretty funny/chill. Your grade is made up of 2 midterms and a final! Lectures and discussions aren't mandatory but I highly recommend going to the lectures. The tests are made up of the book & lectures, it's fr not too bad if you put in the effort! (:

Professor Hoffman is extremely knowledgeable about everything he teaches and has been in his field of study for a long time. He is also an exceptional teacher and can articulate complex ideas extremely well, using witty analogies and metaphors to demonstrate his points. You truly feel like you are learning from the very best.

Hoffman is one of the best. I'm not anything close to a psych major but his lectures were awesome--engaging and well-delivered. If you have a chance to take a class of his, definitely do it! He's clearly at the forefront of his field, has a lot of passion for psychology and teaching, and is always super open to questions during lectures.

If you get the chance to take Professor Hoffman, you definetley should!! He is such an interesting person and lectures will leave you amazed! I am not interested in psychology really at all but I look forward to going to Professor Hoffmans lectures. Super test heavy but they arent very difficult. Just study and youll do great!

Comment:

Dr. Hoffman's lecture is amazing and inspiring, but the questions in the tests are really tricky and detailed. Need to read and remember a lot, and the tests are based on about 40% lectures and 60% textbooks; and he does not post any slides or course materials on the website which means the lectures are mandatory.
