Easy course but covers enough material. Clear course objectives. Was hostile when I challenged his approach to a problem in class. Arbitrary requirements made programming assignment unnecessarily difficult. Only prof I know at UNT competent to teach real programming.

Comment:

Very clear on what he wants from students. We used a website that he created as a kind of book. He posts all lectures on a podcast so you don't miss a thing even if you don't go to class. I highly recommend taking his courses.

Probably my favorite teacher while attending UNT. He is not going to be the easiest teacher but if you work hard you can get the grade you want. He is very nice, polite, and always willing to help. Great guy. Computer Science majors should take at least one of Professor Retzlaff's classes. You will not regret it.

Comment:

Best teacher I have ever had. He is crystal clear and works at an amazing pace. Take this teacher if you want to learn C basics and not ever doubt your destiny as a computer programmer. I have heard math majors state that taking this class made them think about CSCE as an alternative career.

He's an awesome teacher! TAKE HIM!!! You couldn't possibly find an easier teacher for computer science 1. Though, for labs, don't get Erwin, his lab quizzes are hard to understand because he doesn't know how to write code well and it's sloppy. Other than that, TAKE RETZLAFF!!!

This guy can teach! I had to take 1030 a second time because my first professor (Sweany) wasn't working for me. He's helpful. He speaks clearly and makes everything relate-able, he's speaks informally which made the class much more fun. You should go to class to get all the material. If you pay attention its pretty much an easy A.

This class is an EZ-A. Learning C++ was cake, in my opinion. Use the labs if your struggling, it makes it way easier. If you decide to go to class (which maybe about half of students do), he's kind of repetitive but class is out in about half the normal amount (45 min. instead of 90 min.).

He's a pretty cool guy and has some pretty sweet jokes sometimes. The class is pointless for someone like me who will never use it again, but it was pretty easy to get through. Only two tests, and a lab assignment once a week, but you can do the labs from home so its cool. I give him 2 thumbs up.

forced to use funky programming and assigment submnission tool that doesn't work. do programs, submit programs and they get lost (????). made class very stressful since it is a programming class. don't bother attending lectures. presentation lecture slides are dis-organized and unreadble. just tahnkful never have to deal with class again

Very easy class. He was an awesome professor. I have never programmed in my life and he made it as simple as can be. Sometimes it proved to be boring because of the detail he went into. If you come to him needing assistance, he will always help, sometimes to the extent of writing portions of your code for you. Awesome guy.
