Very unhelpful. Brushed off when asking for help, and told that emails will not be replied too. Bad tempered, and doesn't seem to interested in making sure students do well, only that they get by.

Great prof, knows his stuff. His lectures can be interesting if you're into history, else they may be perceived as dry by some. If you pay attention in class, and study his technical examples, you can come out with a pretty good mark.

this class stressed me out; mostly because i didn't go to class and tried to learn it all from his online notes right before exam..don't even try.his notes are totally incomprehensible-nothing is labelled or makes any sense.it's like he wrote them at 3am.class boring, but ull do better if u go.hated the way it was taught, even tho he's a nice guy.

Love this guy - informative, multidisciplinary lectures, and yeah he's slow and relaxed but must we move so fast all the time? it's nice to take your time once in while, wouldn't we complain if our profs went too fast all the time? Love him.

He was assigned as my thesis advisor. But everytime I got to he's office, he says he is busy and sends me off. As a result, more than half of the term is over but I've only met him less than 5 mins in total. I wonder where my tuition is going... And this thesis thing is killing me.

While Canadian economic history is not interesting to begin with- mr paterson made it excruciatingly boring. Excruciatingly. I cannot fathom how he maintains his own interest in this class. The essay and the readings are painful. BUT he is a very nice gentleman. Avoid this class, if you take it go to his office hours to humanize your experience.

Paterson is avg. prof. Just be careful of his temper, don't leave early, don't just hand in your essay and leave...he'll yell. But he likes sailing and you know he loves cowboys.

He's not as good or bad as people say. He is not interesting either. Sometimes funny. Assigns essays. (~15pages) Usually tells you what will be on the exams... if you can stay awake in the lectures. Nice guy but a bit intimidating. Course material is interesting if you really want it to b

he's a pretty good prof, easy to talk to, good marker and isnt too heavy on graphs which is good for non-econ majors who prefer to write essay answers instead of memorize graphs.

Laziest prof I've encountered, holding extra office hrs will kill him. Hard to get help from him. Doesn't know how to teach, and never told us we have a TA who we can get help from until last week of class. Such a prof should not be teaching the most critical course in an econ major program >:(

Great prof, the room in the Geography building was a little warm, so I was prone to drowze once and a while. His lectures were interesting, and his tests and assignments were reasonable. I would recommend Dr. Paterson for any Economic History course.

The course started-off kinda interesting, but don't let that deceive you! His lectures didn't make a whole lot of sense, and his powerpoint presentations were disorganized and useless.
