Comment:
her sylabus was confusing. I was told this course was for advanced writers, but she doesnt go through your work, instead you write 125 word blurbs once a week. She refuses to meet in person despite having an office in the university, so no hands on. She doesnt participate in the discussion board. Dont take her fictional writing course!

Dr. Horne was always prompt while answering any of the questions I had for assignments, and was always helpful with explaining exactly what she was expecting. She was always looking out for her students and shaped the class to fit the needs of us. Dee is a remarkable teacher who truly understands the student and adjusts her class to fit our needs.

I quite enjoyed Dee's class and her teaching. She really knows her subject. The only complaint I have is the syllabus was slightly disorganized, which made it a bit hard to quickly find certain pieces of info later on. I took a creative writing class. There were a ton of assignments, but I really wanted to improve as a writer, so I didn't mind.

The course I am in with Dee consists of an oral presentation (10 minutes long, must be memorized) worth 20%, an essay we were given 3 weeks to do worth 40%, and a final exam worth 40%. The class itself is so boring to me but I'm afraid of not taking enough notes to study for the huge final. Every class with her is stressful.

She is demanding, and essays in her class can be worth up to 50% of your mark...I discovered something however - she is an unexpectedly easy marker. She tries to encourage discussion to the point where it can be painful. Overall not a bad prof but not a great one either.

Avoid! Non-English majors, don't take it to avoid the ENGL 170 presentations, because the class is based completely on presentations. She rarely even teaches. Other than the group activities, which were rare, the class was a total waste of time. I love poetry, but this class is drudgery. Plus, she has a monotone voice.

I liked her...she was helpful and knew her stuff. I really liked how she incorperated creative writing into the class, and also really enjoyed the poets she brought in for readings. It helped that we had some really great poeple in ENGL 102 this semster. All and all, it was a good time. Free food, too!

can anyone say SNOOZEFEST 2005?creative writing should be fun, not a chore.her insistence on grammar is completely misdirected for a creativewriting class, and how about letting us do some actual writing?another tip:stop it with the potlucks!no one comes and they are a waste of time.

what an interesting prof! granted she marks a bit hard, but it is fair, and truly has your best intrests at heart. Extremely approachable and not condescending, a real pleasure. I take as many as possible b/c i've learned something from her, a concept few profs have grasped.

I had her years ago when UNBC first opened for a few lit courses. She said my writing was aweful and failed me on most assignments...I now have a Masters from McGill in literature and I'm completing my PhD. If you want your assignments marked fairly, avoid her at all costs!

Interesting teacher. I really enjoyed this class, mostly because of the great readings (I'm tired of pansy British crap), but also because of Horne's clarity and knowledge of the subject.

Excellent prof., unlike some UNBC English profs she encourages students to engage the literature and does not simply lecture at them. Group seminars presented challenges, but are a good way to force students to respond to the course readings. Excellent choice of novels (except Guterson).

She made us choose our essay topics and write an outline & thesis in the first week! She used the students to teach the lecture by presentations every day. Rude when you don't give her opinion in class. Three questions on the final, and no choice about which you answer Horne=Devil Bad novels too!

One word: Lazy. Whole class structured so she can do as little engaging with the class as possible. No choice to pick topics unless you are creative writer; also boring, and unfocued. Toni Morrison and I agree. Cheers!
