She is so knowledgeable and up to date on current issues and always has provocative questions to encourage real critical thinking. The content was a little boring, but she made an effort to spice it up.

Her exam questions are straight forward. If you are paying attention in class and understand the relationship between the US and Canada then you should be able to anticipate the questions she asks. I expected a higher grade on the midterm but the TA was a little on the harder side. Taught the course well. Some dry parts but thats politics for you.

She is a great prof. Easygoing, her lectures are engaging and to the point, if you attend you will do well in the class! Her exams were fair and marked quickly. Great prof, this isnt even my major and I hate politics and yet loved this class!

She did not fallow what the course was meant to teach, she instead compared Canada to Australia(thats not IR). What really annoyed me what that when i asked her why she said the Queen is not our head of state (which she definitely is) she responded to my quotation of the constituions that "it is that way because I say it is, and im the prof."

The comments on this site freaked me out before taking her class, as I am definitely NOT a lefty. But I really enjoyed this class, and learned tons from her. Sometimes we just need to keep an open mind.

If you disagree do not voice it in class or on papers. If you participate in discussion but she disagrees she will shut you down in from of the class so just stay quiet unless you're willing to look stupid or fight with her about your beliefs (the latter of which will end in a bad grade btw). Just put on your "Vote NDP" tshirt and keep quiet.

Is she left leaning? Yes. Is she as crazy as some people are claiming? Not quite. She's a PhD so her ideas aren't entirely unfounded. If anything her biggest issue is explaining them in detail, where she's often unclear. Course is a breeze though, just regurgitate what she says and you'll get a good mark.

7 years have passed and I still have nightmares with her in them...she comes from nowhere in those progressively tinted glasses with her Ultra-left rhetoric ... and she just keeps talking like the narrator in a bad meditation tape ... I am now a school teacher myself ... she taught me a lot ... about what not to do !!! Steer Clear !!!

I recommend this class to anyone who wants an easy mark. Although she just lectures for the whole class, usually whatever she writes on the board appears on the very easy tests. Classes were ok, and some current event discussions were pretty engaging. Pretty good class, don't mess up the paper.

Somewhat arrogant in the sense that you will profit from feeding her opinions back to her on the written portion of the exam. She could also proof-read her exam questions, as some multiple choice questions had overly ambiguous wording. Other than that, here style of teaching is great and makes for an interesting class. Pretty good Prof. Tells you exactly what she expects on the tests, quizzes are straight forward. Not neccesary to go to class, she gives you text with all the notes in it. Study that and you should be okay. I found myself daydreaming most of the time or skipping the class. Still ended up with a pretty good mark.

Nice woman, interested in subject. Dry, thought informative and still interesting. Likes classroom discussion. tests are small mc, short answer (and essay on final). for marks, vomit all information onto the page. she seems to mark by key words/keys. as such, write her general opinion on things. if you are liberal you will be better off.

I took her class knowing she was liberal, and expecting to have to fight for my grade...I wasn?t wrong. She?s nice, but for the sake of your GPA write what she wants to hear, because writing what you want to say is a one way ticket to a lower GPA. The group project was a waste of time, and her grade scale is completely asinine.

Very boring and appeals to like 4-5 students out of hundreds. Tests are easy but she is never specific on her questions. Someone said: "and on your essay take her point of view or you might fail" this is absolutely true; she'll add to your points and dock you for not adding them.

I liked Professor Barrie. She made class fun and would always open class discussions. The only thing I didn't like about her is how she presented her notes. She would give like a speech and you would have to take notes from. Other than that, she is a good professor.

Very kind woman- if you read your notes, review the literature, and have basic understanding of how to write clearly and efficiently (that means spelling and grammar!) you should be marginally successful in her classes. She does bat left and she's not shy about it- but if you're there to learn, it'll be good times.

Like the others said really liberal. No point in reading the texts past midterm because the final is worth 10%. Tests are not hard if you take good notes and pay attention to the way that she views things...and on your essay take her point of view or you might fail
