Dorothy was a pretty great Prof. Quizzes, assignments, and exams are hard. She really makes you work for those marks. Lectures were very heavy, but clear and somewhat thorough. Very approachable and easy to understand. Would take a class with her again.

Comment:

Dorothy's lectures are very tedious and not thorough. She doesn't teach from the bottom-up and you will often need to supplement by reading up on concepts a LOT. Assignments are very long and contain LOTS of Maple. She does not offer help, unless prompted. If there are other profs, and math is not your strong suit, I would consider looking around.

I had the WORST math teachers in High school before I wound up in her class for MATH 1P05 and MATH 1P06. In her class, I found that she explained things much better and I can understand her, and I did much better in her class than I ever did in High school. She is a great prof, and she has a sense of humor too. :D

Grueling assignments with constant use of maple ta. Goes over simple examples or non at all. very theory based. belittles if the class doesn't know information.

I took both Math1P05 and Math 1P06 with her and did well in both. Tests are hard but fair, she is happy to help you with any questions. Assignments are long but were good preparation. Maple sucks but that's not her fault. I found I enjoyed her class and I also enjoyed chatting with her. Definitely recommend.

I don't mind hard tests, so long as the level of instruction is top-notch. She teaches like a certain topic / concept is no big deal and then will go ahead and give you full blown, ridiculously hard questions on those on tests. Assignments seem like they're designed to waste your time rather than teach you something.

You could either take down notes or focus on understanding the concepts. She went too fast - even over those concepts which she tested heavily on tests. Made them seem like not a big deal in lecture. Assignments were ridiculously long and they felt more like solving puzzles than solving assignments. Let's not even talk about the tests.

I had her for first year math 1p06. Didn't realize it at the time but after taking classes with almost every other prof in the math department, I have to say she can learn a lot from her colleagues. Doesn't teach all that well. Maybe if she stopped focusing on trying to be funny in class and actually taught. That might help.

Had her for MATH 1P06. She loves using Maple on assignments, which are generally at least 15 questions long with multiple parts. Expects you to memorize all the formulas and trig identities needed for tests though. Thinks she's hilarious... Also, heard she's not actually a prof. Just has her masters degree. But that's just what I've heard.

The course is so rushed I have the options of either mindlessly copying her lecture notes, or paying attention without recording notes. You won't have time to solve problems or learn at your own pace. She always skips steps during problem solving so it's easy to get lost. She often belittles and makes fun of the class if a concept is not understood
