Do not take this prof or his classes! He constantly gets off topic, his slides and ppt notes don't make sense, nothing he says is new or enlightening. He talks down to students and questions their opinions - he also cuts you off if he disagrees with you. To boot, he's sexist and often starts his comments with "i probably shouldnt say this, but..."

I can't even begin to describe what an awful teacher this guy is. How he ended up teaching here is a ,yesteryear. Terrible lectures to a point where you start to wonder if he's even read the material himself. Avoid!

This professor is terrible. His notes are not clear, and make no sense whatsoever. If he does not like what you are saying in class he completely shuts you down His weekly quizzes are extremely specific and very difficult. WEBCT comments are always rude. I was very excited to take this course, and my experience was awful.

Mr. Mann is the toughest prof you'll have. A lot of reading is required to do well in his course. He is a difficult person to handle, he is by-the-book, a man of principle, can come across as very rude. Only way he is helpful and nice to you is if you do well on his essays, quizzes, etc. If your an A+, B+ student, you won't have any problems.

he is sort of funny, but as a teacher falls short. Heavy emphasis on participation that ends up getting way off topic and isn't helpful for learning. 3-4 books AND a huge, expensive course pack. powerpoints are too short and concise, so hard to understand at times. Be prepared for non-typical essay questions on exams (screenplays and debates etc).

This professor is what university is supposed to be about. One of maybe 3 classes where I truly had to use critical thinking skills and felt like I was learning more about the world. Mann can come across gruff or aloof but he's a good prof who helps students. This is NOT an easy course, but get over it people, it's university not grade school.

Okay at best. I find him a little rude, tends to cut students off if he doesn't agree with their answer. Big emphasis on participation, so much so that some material won't get covered. He's a stereotypical comic/sci-fi nerd.

My favorite prof! Likes class participation, which makes things interesting. Essay topics relate to papers he writes, so know your stuff (or he'll call you on it). Good speaker, engaging, and VERY helpful. Does an awesome coursepack with lecture notes (just write in the margin!). His website even has movie reviews: http://publish.uwo.ca/~dmann/

Took a comic book class and totally removed any speck of interest from it, which I thought was an utter impossibility. Very poor at analysis, very linear in teaching style. I will not take another class with this professor.

How is it possible to teach a course on pop culture and make it BORING???? He doesn't do anything but summarize the plots of the movies and books. I was ready to claw my own eyes out in the long lectures.

buy the notes and don't go to class because you will get tired of him reading off the powerpoint slides and then having conversations with the same three pretentious idiots who have an opinion on everything and think we actually care enough to hear it
