Although he comes off as a grumpy grandpa at first glance, after having a few classes and conversations with him, he is actually an amazingly caring professor who wants his students to succeed and who really loves music. Everyone in the music world knows him, and if you get to know him, he will open many doors for him. Don't take him for granted!!

Doug is honestly an awesome guy. Ignore all the bad comments, as I have dealt with many conductors over years of music and he's still great. He is also willing to help out anyone who asks for it, and he may seem grumpy, but he's really not. Just watch his baton and you'll be fine. Overall, great teacher and just a really friendly person.

The more time I spend around Doug Weeks the more I love him. He always goes out of his way to learn names and get to know each student, cares about music more than anything, is very patient when working with you one on one, and will always give credit to students where it is due. Professor Weeks is one of my favorite people at WPI.

He's a bit difficult to adjust to, but after that he's awesome. Definitely passionate about music and always makes a point to learn names and address people kindly when he sees them. If you can get past the "angry grandfather" thing he has going on he's a great professor.

I've been playing an instrument for a really long time and was excited to join the orchestra, until I met prof Weeks. He's really rude and honestly just appears as if he hates music and makes playing for him a chore rather than for passion and enjoyment. He's really mean at times and I haven't been able to go back to orchestra. UGH.

Super unorganized and pretty rude and disrespectful. Has moments where you see he can be a really nice guy who cares for music, but most of the time he doesn't seem happy or passionate. I know a lot of people who avoid his classes and orchestras because he can be harsh and push people away from music. Which is super unfortunate. overall a meh prof

If people actually paid attention in his classes, they'd do alright! He's very helpful but you have to seek help if you need it. Take good notes, ask for help, study on your own or with group and you'll get an A. Trust me.

Overall, the class is pretty simple and straight forward...However, the material is uninteresting and and a tad overwhelming. For a class that is supposed to focus on American pop, some of the most fascinating and entertaining kind of music in the world, the material is very biased, limited, and irrelevant. Not terrible but would not recommend.

Even though you may think that going to class is pointless, make sure you go. If you don't, it will definitely catch up with you on the final. If he says something, no matter how obscure the fact, write it down because it's probably a 2-point question on the final. Make sure you the assigned reading. Worst Class EVER!! Do not take any class with this professor. He barely ended up teaching the class, the students taught the class with projects that they presented which took us whole term. And then he put things on the final that were said once in class. Avoid all classes with this professor.

His teaching style is terrible. The way he goes about teaching a class are unorganized and all over the place. If you take this class make sure you go to all the classes and if he says something which he rarely does make sure to write it down because it will most likely be on the final. at a recent show, weeks conducted the choir on one song. it's lucky for us that he didn't conduct our other tunes. maybe it's just me, but i found him extremely hard to follow. but then again, he IS a band conductor primarily.
