Comment:

The point of RBE500 is to make cocky new robotics students realize how little they know, specifically about navigation and state estimation. Michalson doesn't explicitly say that, but it is quite obvious by his overly-kind demeanor. Students tend to take his kindness for granted - but in reality - he knows way more about Kalman filters than you.

one of the worst professors at WPI. He doesn't care about his students and makes a bunch of terrible jokes while lecturing. Took an intro class with him that he made impossibly hard and inaccessible.

Comment:

Michalson was a decent guy but after about three weeks the class got almost unbearable. The last test was insane. There was a disconnect with the Senior Tutors and that was reflected in the help sessions. I liked that he posted homework and test solutions. Other than that, did not enjoy the class.

After the 4th week of class I was almost completely lost in this class. Typically, Michalson teaches graduate classes, however, he tried to teach this class at the same pace as he would to a bunch of ECE majors. He reuses a lot of homework problems on test. If you can find another professor for an introductory level ECE class, I recommend switching

What could have been a great class turned ugly about half way through 1) never handed back homework assignments 2) HARDLY EVER answered email 3) missed classes 4) no shows for office hours 5) Went off on tangents that had nothing to do with the subject matter. Bottom line... class was not worth the $, avoid this prof for this particular class.

Probably a great prof. for grad classes but for undergrad stuff he sucked. He would assign hw we didn't know how to do and you would be stuck in the computer lab till 3 in the morning working on it. You learn EVERYTHING from the book. Class attendance isn't important at all.
