He assigned multiple papers throuout the semester with very narrow topics. He gives the student no room for creativity. Never stray too far from his opinion. Don't expect to get out early in a night class either. He will repeat himself unnecessarily until the end.

I enjoy Dr. Halpin's classes. I never find myself getting bored or irritated with him even when he keeps class 5 or 6 minutes late (which is almost all the time). He is very receptive to questions and comments. if you have an opposing view on something he can be a little quick to dismiss it in favor of what he thinks. I still like him though.

An excellent professor, by all means. With articulate, thorough lectures which cover every aspect of the literature at hand - from the literal language to the underlying philosophies to the history behind the work - Halpin teaches with flying colors. In addition to this, he is amiable both in and outside of class.

He is a really nice guy and will sit down and tell you what is wrong with your essays before you turn them in, but he may tell you one thing about it at that time and when you get your grade back there is a completly different comment about it.

I thought that I was going to like this class. HATED IT!!. Dr. Halpin is a very nice guy, he is helpful also, but not helpful enough for you to keep a good GPA. If you don't think like he does then you won't get an A or B in this class. If you like literature take him if not I would definitely recommend to take someone else for Engl 1002
