You have tons of essays and journals in this class. Only take this class if your prepared to put your all into it. Hes a tough grader so make your essays college ready. Make sure you use your time wisely because multiple essays will be due each day. I like that if you have an average of a B on your journals you are exempt from taking the final

If you're looking for an easy and chill English, he is not the professor. He gives out too much homework, it is stressful. A lot of reading is required. But, his grading is not that strict, he was never rude to me.

Professor Doel was so rude. I avoided participating because he makes you feel stupid and questions absolutely everything you say. The one time i asked him a question about a due date, he just laughed in my face. I felt humiliated. Rarely ever gives As on papers. Would not recommend him at all, there are better English professors at Delta.

He's a great teacher, has great sense of humor and is willing to help you learn how to write papers and understand critical arguments. Make sure you don't plagiarize without citing. Expect atleast 1 essay per month and about two reading journals (two pages long) per week to be due. Not a hard class, make sure you don't fall behind though.

i honestly did not like his method of teaching. he spends a lot of time talking bad about past students and assigns a crazy amount of work each night. Some times puts students down for asking questions or puts them on blast if they give an incorrect answer. makes me not want to participate.

Professor Doell is an incredible teacher! Lots of writing assignments, and reading. Keep focused and ask for help if you need it. He really wants you to succeed and do well in his class. Hands down my favorite class, can be difficult at times.; but overall AMAZING professor. Wish I could fit him in my schedule to take 1B with him.

You will have to read and write a lot. It's tough work however, if you complete the required number of journals, you can opt out of taking the final exam. I highly recommend doing this! The class is interesting as long as students participate in class discussions. Don't be afraid to talk or ask questions. I'm truly going to miss his class.

Lecturestudent reflection every class session. Doell grades by your progress. Most of the writing assignments are journals -- a sh*t load of journals. Can opt out of taking the final. Will engage in one on one discussions after class. Don't be afraid to talk to him. Pretty chill, but can be a bit condescending. Took his Eng 1A1B. Enjoyed it.

My friends have taken their english classes by writing essays on topics given by the teacher. But in this class you read novels, and write summaries. So take this class if you love reading. All it is, is discussing the novel the next day in class. Listening to other students reflect. He grades harshly, I can barely read his writing on my paper

PROF. Ed Doell is a great instructor. He always keeps you on task and will answer any questions you may have. If you can listen to instructions and comprehend literature at a moderate level, this is the professor to take. Eng. 1A -Jeremy

Half English half Philosophy in practice, Professor Doell is hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had. If you're ready to have your mind expanded, your writing skills sharpened, and your humanity to be explored, his class is the place to be. A++ teacher. I'm sad the semester is over!

Extremely vague on homework assignments while extremely harsh on grading. Tends to have long pauses in his lecture because he wants people to finish his sentences or ideas on a brand new lecture no one has heard before. Overall frustrating.

Doell is one of the toughest professors I have ever encountered in my educational career. He assigns rigorous assignments but doesn't make it clear how he exactly wants them done. When done wrong he doesn't hesitate to call you out in front of the class. I recommend staying FAR away from enrolling yourself in his classes. You're better off.

Professor Doell assigns a lot of work and has VERY LITTLE tolerance for late assignments. He respects other's opinions, encourages students to become deep and critical thinkers and to participate in meaningful classroom discussions. I found his instructions and assignments confusing at times (including due dates), but other than that, he's great!

This instructor teaches at two other college campuses for a total of 9 classes right now in 2013. He expects prompt completion of essays, yet he skims through your work because he spread himself thin to make more money. When an assignment is graded it is only partially graded and when re-submitted he will reject it again.

Professor Doell made me a much better writer than before. He assigns many assignments 1-2 a week. He requires you to be involved with discussions and read the books. Once you do that he is a great teacher. Doell has a very stimulating way of teaching and will teach you much more than writing. Avoid his class if you are looking to slide by.
