SRA 111 with Dr. G was one of my favorite classes. He lets you use notes on the quizzes. Group project was very easy. Very interesting and relevant topics in class.

Comment:
Glantz is mediocre as he certainly cares about his students and his assignments are directions are clear. However, Glantz's world view is downright retrograde. He makes false statements in class about other countries and US policy without evidence and his note slides and materials are very outdated so lectures can be frustrating.

OK so Prof Glantz is personally a nice guy and wants you to do well. But, the risk paper (final paper) was INSANELY hard and MOST kids in my class failed the first two installments of the paper. That being said, you are expected to seek out the help of TAs who can guide you to getting a better grade. Not gonna lie, this class was one of the hardest

Not the most interesting class, but the LAs & TAs were super accessible and helpful. Dr. G just wants everyone to learn and enjoy class, but he sometimes has unclear grading criteria and doesn't always answer questions in a useful way. BUT he is very kind, nice, and I would take him again.

He really likes talking about himself and his experience which is often outdated. He thinks he is an expert in writing papers (You cannot use first person in this class, because he thinks it takes away value or something) Monotone lectures although you can be on your laptop. Worst grading rubrics I have ever seen (So vague and bad examples)

Comment:
Prepare for long and dry lectures packed with repetitive analogies delivered with monotone impassivity (but you won't get punished for zoning out on your laptop) The graders were tough, deducing points for things not outlined in the rubric. Quizzes were open note on CANVAS. Get a good grade by attending class, and carefully reading TA feedback.

If you want to learn anything useful do not take him. If you want an easy A then take him. His lectures are him reading power points and not saying anything that you probably didn't already know. He says test includes things from the text book, but it doesn't so don't bother. Easy class I took him for SRA 11 as well. Two easy As

I had Dr. Glantz in Summer Session. He talks a lot about himself and gets side tracked very easily. He knows his stuff, but his quiz and test questions are extremely vague. Is not clear on what he wants on a project, rubrics are incredibly vague.

This was easily my favorite class I've taken. I took this course not having any tech background and leave much more knowledgeable. He teaches the lecture very specifically, you have to attend due to most quizzes being about the curriculum or his lecture. Def a course that needs the book as well. I am hoping to take another course taught by him.

He knows his material, and the semester project (UrRISK) really gives you something to learn. There are a lot of things to work on other than UrRISK (e.g. Milestone, scenario project) and you have to go to the class (attendance matters). However, this course mostly depends on LAs. UrRISK is graded really harsh; the class average was around 75.

Glantz spends more time talking about his own achievements and how he is superior to other professors than he does teaching. He leaves all the instruction on major projects to LAs who put in the bare minimum and refuse to help. Grading is very arbitrary and uses criteria not on the rubric that 'you should have assumed'. Worst professor at PSU

Glantz is a particular guy, he likes things to be done just-so, but once you figure out what he's looking for you want have a problem getting a good grade. He's a good lecturer and his course notes are a MUST (it's only like $10). He's a very nice man. Obviously cares about the topic and is knowledgeable.

Oh god one of the worst professors ever. Very full of his class, and thinks it is the most important thing on the planet. Hard to take education seriously when you're making "risks of washing your dishes". I didn't use his class's knowledge ONCE at my internship. Also he hates technology. We aren't allowed to use laptops. BEWARE.

I haven't enjoyed a single course more than 311 with Glantz. His lectures were by far the best I have studied. His ability to expand on every aspect of the given topic is his gig. I would certainly take another class with him.

He was the very first prof I had in college and I took a few more of his classes, simply because it's an easy A! His lesson plans, group projects, etc are ALWAYS the same so you'll have plenty of experience with how he teaches. He's a nice guy and very helpful when you ask him questions. READ the chapters, he uses it for the tests!!

Glantz is a smart guy, and his courses are set up to allow students to do some self learning through team projects and scenario assignments. His lectures could use work, so do not enroll if you're looking for an easy BS course. If you are willing to put in some time to interpret what he's saying, you'll get a lot out of Dr. Glantz's classes.
