She is lazy. You will get most of marks at the end of the semester. She doesn't know how to teach. I took her web programming class which could be so much fun. What she does in class is showing her codes and explaining them. The problem is that she doesn't start from the beginning, just jumps to the advanced lever! :( You should study by yourself.

If you enjoy receiving marks and getting feedback in a timely matter, look elsewhere... It took her 7 weeks to mark a hilariously simple assignment! Ive now written my final, and Ive only gotten marks back for our first assignment and my midterm. She still has to mark my finals as well as 3 other assignments.

Comment:

Simply put, the worst teacher I have ever had. Assignments took 3-4 weeks to be graded (we had to hand in assignment 2-an extension of assignment 1-before getting the first back), and feedback was cookie cutter and useless .Favourite quote after out midterm was "Expect to be tested on material not covered in this course" when half the class failed.

Rambles on about information not helpful in developing the skills required for students to succeed. Don't expect Ellen to teach you anything as she expects you to teach the material to yourself. She doesn't do hands-on examples in class which makes the course very dry and boring. Avoid taking a class with her unless you already know the material.

I found it hard to stay on track in her classes, but she has created her website with tons of info so if you couldn't follow up in class you can do it at your own pace at home, assignments are important but she will go out of her way to help anyone who wants the help. She loves giving extra help to her students. Definitely cares for her students.

Ellen is really really helpful and explains things very very well if you have question. she'll give details thoroughly to make sure you understand. The one and only thing i dislike about this class is how we get a long PDF to use as practice, and it would be a lot better if we did the examples in class rather than as homework from the PDFs.

I understand some students frustration with Ellen, but I think she is somewhat misunderstood. First off, she can be kind of monotone at times which prevents a lot of students from paying attention. If you're in her class, you really need to stay awake. She's a sweetheart most definitely, and when you ask a question she will make sure you understand

She is easily the worst teacher I have ever had. She taught Linux twice, a HTML course and DB. All of which were totally pointless. She forces you to come to class and listen to her ramble on about nothing, then says "Read the site if you are confused" which also sucked. Had to research everything solo

Ellen is not a good teacher. She can't teach properly. She just makes us come to class, tells us to read some text and then tells us what our homework is. She needs to give us feedback on the exercises we do. If we come to the mid-term without knowing how we're doing in class, it's very misleading. We need to do if we're doing it right or not.

SYST28296: Awesome teacher. very nice to all her students, even the ones who are jerks to her.. and there were quite a few in my class. If you have questions, all you have to do is ask and she will explain everything perfectly, very easy to understand. Dont listen to these people who say shes bad, this last post was from my class and he was a jerk.

SYST28296: Horrid teacher, comes tired from playing World Of Warcraft all night, says more ums and ahs than a 5th grade presenting, expected us to remember scripting from 1st year (now third year), assignments are all messed up (eg. assignments 1,2,3 go in logical order 1,2,3 of learning/installing/configuring linux, due 3,1,2). Completely useless.
