Tough grader in general. I am used to receiving high 80s, low 90s for my work and in this class I was struggling to get a 75. She picks apart your grammar on assignments (even if it isn't that bad). I also found that my grades were affected in one essay because I argued against her opinion. Probably wouldn't take a class with her again.

You'll get most of your marks from doing well on the midterms and exams. She assigns an exegetical essay and a term paper essay. Both she marks very hard (not just for me, all my classmates have agreed) and she puts a lot of weight on grammar rather than arguments. Even if your grammar is not that bad, she will find something to clock you on.

It's a philosophy class mate, you should definitely try your best to be in class and participate in class discussion, as that is where the bulk of your learning comes from here. Emer is very funny, very intelligent, and very caring! I found it easy to improve based on her feedback on my papers, though I do wish I had spoke up more in class.

Emer's a great professor. Her lectures are easy to follow, she's great at keeping your attention on the subject, and is great at prompting you with things to think about. Textbook is needed for reading assignments and it's referenced lectures. If you just read the assigned pages and take good lecture notes, the exams are basically handed to you.

By far one of the best professors I have had. In order to pass, you have to pay attention to what she says but it's not difficult to stay engaged. She is extremely helpful. Grades fairly, but you do have to work for the marks. She also gives great feedback on marked items. You'll always know what you can do to improve but also what was done well.

Emer is hands down the best Philosophy Prof. I've ever had the fortune to be taught by. She is, to this day, the only professor I've felt the need to email after the term to thank for the way in which she taught. I would take her class again in a heartbeat, and if any of you have the chance to do so, take it!

Amazing lecturer. Handles sensitive topics well (Philosophy of Death) and does an excellent job of charitably teaching multiple perspectives on an issue, even those contrary to her own philosophical leanings. Grades tough, but gives you the exam questions in advance and explicitly outlines her expectations.

Emer is the best Prof I've had, hands down. Pay attention to what she says(which isn't difficult because she's a very good public speaker) and you'll do great. I only took about 2 pages of notes the whole term and instead just focused on trying to understand what she was thinking and left the class with my best Uni mark so far. Amazing Prof!

Took a morbid sounding class from her, Philosophy of Death, and she turned it into a very interesting and enjoyable subject. Exam questions (midterm and final) are given ahead of time, ex: 2 of 3 given questions will be on exam. You NEED to do the readings, pay attention in class, and take notes to be prepared for exams.

She assigns 10 assignments on the very first day of class, you have the whole term to complete them. She grades these assignments very easily (basically everyone gets 100% on all 10 of them) but when it comes to midterms and papers she marks really hard. Assignments are based on textbook reading, so purchasing the textbook is a must.

Made difficult subject matter and theories understandable for a first timer. Really engaged the class in discussion but didn't require everyone to participate which was nice. Fair marker and would recommend.

Explanations are confusing and vague even when you ask in more detail after class. The textbook used wasn't precise in explaining the definitions for the theory concepts either. Not very accommodating with the student's needs. Inflexible and unconcerned whether you're struggling and having a hard time. Unneeded effort is a MUST.

She is a great prof, knows her material. Must attend class, none of her lectures are posted online. Books provide lots of further knowledge, but is summarized in class. Important to take good notes. She wants you to argue, counter-argue, and argue again. Rewards arguments very well. Finals are long. Need to work hard for a good grade.

My first impressions were not great but as the class went on I enjoyed her as a prof more and more as the year went on. She is sometimes not the best public speaker but her argumentative ability is very good. She is probably my favorite prof of my first year.

She is a fair marker. She gives exam questions in advance and covers the material with admirable clarity during lectures, so it is expected you understand the coursework thoroughly. She can be stern, passionate, and comedic at the same time, which is quite refreshing when the rest of your professors are so dry it makes you want to shoot yourself.

The class was very hard to understand and the professor was very hard to approach. If you are interested in the class before hand, DO NOT take this class, it may ruin it for you; like it ruined it for me.

She was an alright prof. Make sure you do the readings she assigns or you will have no clue what is going on in class. Her lectures are hard to follow and it is atrocious to try and take notes in her class because she writes random stuff and pictures on the board. She is definitely willing to help you anytime you need it tho.

First phil class ever and I couldn't have asked for a better prof. Classes were interesting as was the material covered. Best of all she gives the exam questions out beforehand! If there are tutorials offered, GO TO THEM. Read the material, go to the tutorials and you will get a great mark. Awesome!
