Comment:
Ethics isn't really a class you look forward too, but Prof. Barcalow made the subject much more interesting and entertaining. The class is super easy and you learn a lot about current issues. The amount of work is very reasonable. The only people who struggled and didn't know what to do were the ones who sat on their iPhone the whole time.

This professor lectured 90minutes every class and calls students out for the most random things in the most rude way. He demands respect while never giving any, easy class nonetheless. I would not recommend him to anyone.

Made ethics conversations more interesting, but he expects you to participate in the discussion. The tests are dumb easy if you pay attention in class and take SOME notes. Would take him again if I had to.

Due dates were extremely unclear all the time as well as what was required in each assignment. The class itself seemed disorganized and he never emailed anybody back in the class.

Comment:
Offers a great atmosphere for potentially hostile topics - very understanding of others' viewpoints and will never fail you for disagreeing with him. Gives awesome feedback, but he is a pretty tough grader (75% of my grade is 5 papers). Discussions boards are generally an A as long as you post a decent response. Very available for office hours

Prof Barcalow was clearly interested in all he was teaching, but he was NOT clear in the assignments he assigned. The whole grade of the class were essays that were not explained well and the grading made no sense. I definitely would not recommend this course unless you plan to talk to Prof about what he expects (indepth) for the assignments!

Barcalow is cool. He's clear and he clearly loves whatever he's teaching. I thought this was going to be boring, but who knew that ethics could be fun?

I've taken two classes with Barcolow, Ethics and Ancient Rome. What an intellectual! There was a ton of reading and papers for both classes, but his subject matter sucked you in and you wanted to keep going. His lectures were very deep, but he brings you along in his thought process. I thoroughly enjoyed his classes!

Expects a lot from students, but a good teacher, if the subject matter is of interest to you. Caused me to think in depth and enjoy complicated subject matter.

I like the guy...his class is interesting. Just be careful to pretend that you align your opinions with his...he doesn't like to be disagreed with.
