He seems very nice, but has no consideration! I passed all my homeworks and paper works and I got pretty good grades! and I had a perfect attendance! I was really expecting to pass and get an S but I got an SR! In a way, its a FAIL! DO NOT take his class if you want to pass.

Comment:

He's not a hard marker in terms of homework, but in terms of the exams he is. He has students report the news every Monday, which is very useful to boost up your self confidence. Above all, I only learned paragraph writing and summarizing in his class. We never had the chance to write an essay except the in-class essay.

Profoundly disagree with the other superficial rating from last term. The exams were fair and required only a basic grasp of the material and a concise, coherent essay style. Eric was very open to new ideas, connections and ways of looking at the texts and I found this encouraging.

Professor Ball is a great beginner level English professor at Langara. I don't understand how he received such bad ratings. The man try to educate people about sentence structures to help them build stronger sentences and lessen our grammatical error in our paragraphs. Just attend his classes and do your work, and you are bound to receive a S.

Eric is a super nice man, however his classes are EXTREMELY non-stimulating, as he simple sits and recites parcels of the textbook. He is quite monotone and does not make any of his lectures very exciting. Exams are ridiculously demanding as he expects students to achieve unrealistic expectations. I do not recommend him!!!!

I dropped this class after just over one week. If your interpretations are different than his, you're screwed. He allows for some discussion, but if you see things differently he either gets defensive in class, or will mark it wrong on a test. He probably needs to retire.

He's not a bad person, but he is really horrible at teaching. he spent almost the entire semester teaching us sentence structures... I learnt nothing on writing essays. He takes attendance every class. also a hard marker! Don't pick him unless you want to waste your time and might not pass this course and learn pretty much nothing.

Eric is old school. Brought in a tape machine to play some readings from Dylan Thomas from over a hundred years ago. Some people will have a hard time getting used to him. He'll expect the class to contribute to interpretations of the text, unless its Chaucer. I noticed some bored ppl, but they weren't interested in literature in the first place.

His slow and impartial style takes some getting used to but he is a great prof IMO. He is a hard marker like all English profs but will grade you based on your sound, articulate arguments - which if you don't have; you're SOL.

Eric is a wonderful person and will go out of his way to make himself available to students. You can tell he is passionate about the material, but his class is exhaustingly boring and he is an extremely tough marker. He knows a lot about the course topics but relays his knowledge slowly and dully. I think he should be a scholar, not a teacher.
