Comment:
If you are looking for classes to take next semester avoid this professor at all costs. Lectures are useless and tests have surprise questions. If you have to take him you are better off self teaching yourself with the book. He knows what he is talking about but he is horrible at conveying what he knows.

He is a horrible professor. He rambles during lectures every day about information that is totally irrelevant. Hostler is a very tough grader, yet doesnt provide enough information to competently complete case studies. Avoid him if at all possible.

His notes in class are almost pointless. He tries to have students answer questions about a subject no one really knows about and delays class until enough people try. His tests are tricky and he gives no support for the case problems. Avoid him!!!!

Very sarcastic and doesn't take his job seriously. He doesn't help you with the case problems even when you see him in his office for help. The test questions are very similar to each other making it very difficult to differentiate. Unfortunately he is very unqualified to be a college professor. Do not take him.

He is under qualified to be a professor. His classes really don't help and he gives absolutely no help for the case problems. Don't take him.

Whatever you do, try not to take Hostler. Notes are never written on the board or presented in any way. He expects everyone to read the chapter outside of class and then answer discussion questions for the entire class. Nobody in the class will participate since he will make every student feel stupid. He will answer questions with more questions.

The worst professor I've ever had, and I'm using professor loosely. He rambles through a powerpoint that wont be on the test. Study the vocab words from the book and you'll pass. The case studies are not relevant to the class and he gives no direction on them. He also refuses to give above an 80 on them, so expect a nice C.

ALWAYS messing things up. Expect your tests to come back late. Expect the online homework to be due in a week, but he doesn't actually put it up until the day of. Expect him to come in with a depressing attitude. His class has been the low point of my semester.

This guy doesn't know how to do the madatory case studies himself, when you email him regarding anything technical its usually an I Dont Know answer. He blabs on about Databases and internet for the class and nothing about the case studies and very little about the vocab, (which are the tests) . He tests on semantics, not the understanding of the material.

His classes are glorified vocab reviews. He hands you case studies that are completely irrelevant to what your currently "learning" in class. He gives you no guidance on the cases, in which you pretty much teach yourself how to do because he wont. If I had to choose between taking another class with Hostler and burning alive, show me the fire.

Probably the worst professor I have taken so far. He assigns case studies and says "figure it out" with no directions, explanations, or examples. It is very stressful. The online tests are only 10 minutes long which are pretty difficult. That is not enough time to correctly complete every question.

Hostler is the worst professor I've had at York College. He is a very strict grader and he does not care if his students learn the material. If I could talk to anyone who has to take this class I would insist on them taking another professor

Hostler is an okay guy. Teaches decently, grades pretty fairly. He takes forever to grade assignments. At least in my case, I finished his tests rather confidently yet they came back in the low to mid 70%'s. Lots of opportunities for points though. Class is somewhat difficult.

I totally agree with the comment below so I'll expand on that. If you know how to use Microsoft Access you may do ok. Just study the vocab in the book for his tests. There is really no point to go to class unless he's talking about the cases. Bring a lap top and try to do things as he shows you, that saved me about 5 hours. Dont take him if you can

Absolutely terrible. Class is pointless. Talks about what the internet is and databases but spends no time on case studies, which you are EXPECTED to know, not taught in class. Grades assignments a month after they are handed in. Most boring professor i have ever had

If he didn't use class time to help with the case studies there would be no reason to go to class. He did spend alot of time helping us with the case studies. Barely anything he lectures on are on the tests. His lectures are extremely boring. You have to read the chapters and study your own notes. Mainly focus on vocab.

Knowledgeabel but no a very good public speaker. He says OK after just about every sentence. Very annoying. Case study help is very useful but he's not totally sure how to complete them. He also has a subjective way of grading the case studies.

Not helpful with case studies using access. Office hours are a joke. Tests are not bad, study vocab.
