You either love Dr. Miller or you hate him. I love him! He is a tough grader but he tries his best to be accessible and to help you to pass, but he's not going to apologize for the grade he gives you. He tries his darndest to connect with all his students, if you respect him, he will respect you and joke with you awkwardly!

Comment:
He advises students to compromise convictions to get better grades for him and in grad school, which is probably what he did since he used to be conservative. I know several profs in grad school now who are more accomplished than him and a lot more humble. He brags about how he grades unfairly but then gets upset when students complain about it.

He's a tough grader, but he makes you think deeply and tries to get you to connect everything into one cohesive idea. Very good teacher who isn't afraid to have a good time in class.

Not a bad teacher, but definitely has his own ideas about how things ought to be and isn't afraid to promote his agenda. I know a lot of people (I'm one) who have noticed that you only get good grades if your papers reflect his own ideas back at him. That said, he's obviously a smart man and classes with him are almost never wasted time.

He's brilliant, but his 103 section is hard. Maybe I'm just bitter because he didn't like some of my essays. Come to class ready to articulate insightful thoughts or he won't care about you.

Comment:
The senior seminar course is excellent, the instruction could be better. I wish he would take the class as seriously as senior history majors do. He should be on time, not take 15 minutes of goofing off before beginning class. If he is not willing to do a better job then he should not teach the course. He teaches lower level courses better.

Exceptional guy. Rarely have I met a more brilliant, incisive individual who has such a head for both details and big pictures. He's my adviser, and so I've gotten to know him pretty well. He's hard when it comes to grades, but he makes you think long and hard, even when you don't think you have the time. Thank you, Dr Miller!

Miller is a fun guy; he's the son of a missionary couple. I really enjoyed learning about American Religious history from him. However, he tends to play favorites and intentionally or not, it affects his grading. Also, he is not the most helpful teacher-I emailed him for help w/ a paper and he never responded. He's unclear of course expectations

Dr. Miller is great! He's the toughest humanities grader, but it's worth it because you have to attend common meetings and read the readings in depth. The discussions make the class. He doesn't prove anyone wrong, but allows debate. Learned so much about life and death. Take Hum with Miller.
