Eric really is a great guy - I thoroughly enjoy his class simply for the element of humor he adds and his laid-back demeanor. There is a ton of reading material provided, but Eric was lenient on what's mandatory. With an Accounting background, IT is way over my head but I would highly recommend for a low-involvement, non-degree specific elective.

He overloads you with info. I agree that you can spend every waking hour reading and still not get through the lectures / assigned chapters each week. He assigns a lot of long, complicated papers (most of mine ran 10+ pages), then doesn't give any feedback. He told my class he "didn't have time to write comments." Worst class I've ever taken.

I'd say he's an ok professor. His lectures are definitely dry but do offer a chance for you to go along. Usually he'll open up a spreadsheet/database and show you on the screen what he's doing, how he's doing it. I usually spent the class completing the homework, didn't pay much attention but I did well.

Only gave lectures everyday, which half the class ignored because they were on their devices ignoring him. 2 exams, first worth 100pts and the other 40pts. Everyone failed the first exam so he gave a 55 point curve to everyone's exam. Same with the second exam. I passed, but I'm not sure I'd take him if information systems is your major.

This guy knows how to teach, in the correct order and style, but makes you work for it. Wants to make sure you understand the topic, and you get to use them in real life. His lectures are amazing, answers any questions you might have. The guy is one short of a genius. If you want to learn things that matter, take his class. Not an easy A, for sure!

The lectures aren't important, if you have google you're fine. He is a great guy and he doesn't grade harshly at all. Just a lot of homework, especially at the end.

You have to read from a "textbook style" novel and complete questions(you'll never receive 100%) and buy an actual textbook which he assigns 5 chapters the night before the exam... Repeats his lectures which DO NOT cover his exams(curved the scores by 25+). If you need this class for your major, take someone else, if not, you'll be fine.

Honestly his class isn't difficult and he's a very smart guy, but his lectures are dry and you end up figuring the homework out by yourself without really knowing what your doing. It seemed as if we were googling in class how to work with Excel and Access then actually learning. Easy class you just won't learn much...

He intentionally makes his test incredibly hard but also curves 20+ points. Nice guy but I would not take him again. He makes his writing assignments subjective but says there is no way someone could achieve full points on them. There's two books, one for writing assignments and another one for exams.

Worst class in the MBA program! You could spend every waking minute during the semester trying to read all the material he throws at you, and you'd still run out of time. Assignments are intentionally vague because that's how the real world is in his mind. As a result you're left frustrated and confused. Painful, zero learning, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

I enjoyed his lectures, even if a lot of the times they didn't have to do with the papers (no tests! - yay!), they were very relevant about IT in the work place. I think if he sees you come to class every day and at least complete the assignments, then he gives you a good grade. Would take again!

Too many case studies but he does not check, grades randomly (88 to 93 out of 100). He makes vague comments to all students: "pretty much what I'm looking for", "Almost there", Well - some points missing". No proper feedback. He teaches lots of classes in each semester. Very hard to communicate with him. He even replies "I'm too busy to reply".

Prof. Thompson is one of the best professors I've had at UCD and his class exceeded my expectations. The class structure was my style and preference--no exams but a substantial amount of writing is required. The IT industry is dynamic and constantly evolving, making this class more relevant than others I've taken for grad school.

This was one of the hardest classes I've ever had to sit through. Lectures were repetitive and monotonous. Tests had nothing to do with the lectures. Read the textbook! Truly don't think i learned anything useful. Grading criteria for group project was unclear and sporadic at best. Will never take another class with him if i can help it.

This is not an easy course, but it is a good one. IT systems and management of the are constantly adapting and changing. Eric does a good job of trying to present the current state of affairs. The class room discussions are very relevant.

Had to take this class as a supplement for the computer class I took at another school. Prof. Thompson had a funny, dry wit and made the week-long class enjoyable. It was clear that he did not think that most of us knew enough from our computer classes, implying that we swindled our way into his class. Very slow grader.

I learnt a lot from this class. There is a lot of reading before you can write your papers. No exams, but 10-15 page papers due every 10-14 days. Class discussions were good and very timely and relevant.

His lectures require listening. He adds most lecture content into tests, and even if you aren't interested in the subject matter, there is a lot to take away from this class. Listen, and you will be pleasantly surprised by a dry, sarcastic, sense of humor from a realllllly smart person. I give this class an A!
