I took a lower level history class and he was my professor. I honestly regret this; he is very hard. I cannot understand a word he says and he honestly jumps from topic to topic. You might as well take an online class because you will need to attend class and then re-read your book for information. The power points he uses are also useless.

Boia is a mediocre teacher at best. When the whole class is failing tests you need to add a curve. It's a required class to fulfill credits and Boia makes it out to be a class for early history graduate students! Not pleasant.

Horrible teacher. Must read the book and attend every class otherwise a passing grade is impossible. Pay attention to everything. You must print all documents in case of pop quizzes. Switch teachers NOW if you have him. (you have been warned)

His class is very hard. You have to read the textbook from cover to cover because the test questions are from assigned readings and pages in the book that were not assigned to you. He structures the class to accommodate history buffs, not students who are merely there for the General Education credits. I recommend this class for history majors only

This class I felt was hard.Took it with a friend and we studied almost every night. Quizes and paper are easy, tests are hard. I some how managed to get a B and was extreamly surprised by that!!youll have to work really hard to get an A. slides and readings were not very helpful.

Do not take this course in the summer with this professor. He will try to cram in a whole semester's worth of material into the 6 weeks you have. We had 10 students in our summer class and 9 of us were getting a failing grade. Lots of reading, lots of work, hard to keep up with him. You need to devote 100% of your time to probably get at least a C.

Hard tests, I got D's on both of them after HOURS of studying. But I saved my grade with the quizzes (easy) and paper (easy). I ended up with a B but I didn't go the first few weeks cause I thought I didn't have to. But I recommend you go. He is actually a funny guy and by the end of the semester he had our entire classroom cracking up.

You can tell he loves what he teaches. Very fair grader, and very willing to work with you if you show up for class and word hard. Loved his dry humor. Great professor, I wish I could take all his classes because he makes history interesting.

Tests are hard if you dont read. His projector notes are worhtless and class is boring. he's kanda awkward but I thought he was funny. I thought he was a bad teacher until I realized that I'd been slacking off and when I studied harder I got better grades. Very Fair Grader! Really no reason to avoid him -- 3.3 out of 5 I'd say

Decent teacher. Lectures are very tedious as its pretty much the same thing every class. However if you come to class and do the readings you will do fine. Helpful if you ask questions too.

He is a very nice guy and loves what he teaches. He is willing to help if you ask. He is also a fair grader. I did not use the books, but make sure to take good notes based on what he says, rather than what he puts up on the projector.

He's probably better at teaching upper level courses. You must have the books! Read on your own! AND DO NOT USE ELECTRONIC DEVICES OR "BLUEBERRIES" as he'd call them. Overall I'd give him a 3 out of 5 he knows his stuff.

Extremely hard to understand. Must read the books to even consider passing the class. Lectures go off topic alot. Spends alot of time re-capping what he did last class and finally gets to the new information half way through the days class. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
