Comment:
Professor Bolongaro was nowhere near as demanding as I expected. He lectured in class very clearly about the material that he will ask for evaluation, so clearly in fact that I did none of the readings and saw none of the films yet I got an A. If you show up in class and take good notes, you're golden. Great lecturer as well!

Very passionate lecturer. We once spent an entire class analyzing the first two paragraphs of a 250 page book. That being said, he is a tough grader and unnecessarily harsh with criticism. Do the readings, watch the movies, and go to class ready to discuss.

Never had a professor with as much passion as him. If you're not going to work, you shouldn't take the class. He expects you to read your novels or watch movies, which is normal for a class like this. People who are hating went through the semester without doing one or the other. He is a hard grader though, but reasonable.

I loved this class and its content... unfortunately I feel the exact opposite about the professor. VERY hard marker. Nothing but criticism on the papers and it is not constructive at all. Stay away from him if you can!!

I took this as an elective and it was okay. The list of novels were really interested, but the assignments were boring. I felt as though he expected us to regurgitate what he discussed in class. That being said, I did not think he was an overly had marker (often times the feedback would be harsh, but the grade would be decent).

Prof Bolongaro is so all over the place! He is so confusing and doesn't indicate what he wants for assignments. He is also very moody! He once asked for feedback and criticism but got mad when we shared out honest opinions. Overall, it is good course, and mandatory for the Liberal Arts program, but taught poorly.

Was late for in class quite often and took much time to correct assignments. Very passionate and knowledgeable about Italy. Wants his students to really show critical thinking skills in projects. Rather high assignment expectations, but doable. May be somewhat rude during office hours. Make sure to read/watch the material (even if a lot).

He's pretty nice and interesting to listen to but this class wasn't really what I expected. There is a lot of material (multiple novels, academic articles, films) and it's a little much for an intro class. I didn't think his marking was particularly difficult but he takes months to hand things back. Not great at encouraging discussion in class.

It's amazing to me how after taking this class I have such an appreciation for Italian cinema and filmmakers. However, this class was S0 difficult to sit through sometimes and Bolongaro thinks that he is ALWAYS right. It made for a very hostile classroom environment where students don't want to talk for fear of being ridiculed.

He is the worst professor I have encountered at McGill to date. He is pretentious, inflexible, and not open to opinions other than his own. He doesn't respond to emails in a timely manner and could not care less about helping his students who are struggling. I would not recommend his classes to anyone. Ever.

He is the DEVIL. Girls would leave his office in tears, gave us an entire speech on how we should learn to write properly. Does NOT help...gave everyone B-'s and was a complete asswhole. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS - what you think might be an easy elective will ruin not only your GPA but also your whole semester.

He doesn't care about what students think and say. In your papers/presentations, use HIS ideas. If you don't, you're doomed. It's too bad that such a smart man isn't open to what other people think. His classes can be interesting, but can also be utterly boring at times.

Expects a lot from his students, and admittedly is very set in his own opinions. But, work hard, think, and the class is great. ASK FOR HELP! One session with him basically wrote my final paper. Bring a tape recorder when you go to his office hours, he's so knowledgeable. Great prof overall.

He has a passion for what he teaches, but unfortunately he's not open to new ideas, he has firm convictions. The material for this class in particular was, simply put, not very uplifting...it got you thinking! But a little on the apocalyptic end...

This professor was boring, and I should know, I somehow ended up having to take two classes with him. He loves it when you parrot back every word out of his mouth in your papers. If you have your own ideas, no matter how well defended, he gives you a bad mark. Frightful.
