Comment:

I had Evan Somers for my Film 20 class and then for my Film 21 class. The guy was amazing and really inspired me to write more and better. His death is definitely a huge loss, hopefully in a few years time, some of his students will be able to pay tribute to him in audio commentaries on Blu-Rays or interviews. He deserves every bit of praise.

You will know how to write a screenplay if you attend every class, and participate. I thought this guy was great! He shows you a short film from screenplay to finish. He's hilarious (usually)...can get sensitive, but that's often when things start to happen in class. It's also cool to get up and read other's scripts. A++, Mr. Somers!

LOVE this guy. Still talk to him semesters after my class. Great teacher, great class...loved to participate and listen to everyone's scripts. He gave good feedback and had interesting prompts. DEFINITELY TAKE THIS CLASS, you won't regret it! (Especially if you love film)

By far, one of the BEST professors ever, not just only at SMC. This guy is totally honest, extremely helpful, and with a doubt one of the best people I have ever met. He really knows his stuff and you can tell he really cares for his students. You'll learn so much if you take his classes, so take them, seriously! Good Luck, Evan!

Great teacher. It's not a walk in the park however. If you don't like to write don't take this class. There is no 'right' and 'wrong' way to do the papers...but he expects you to do them. Otherwise a great class, you'll learn a lot and have a great time doing it too. The only SMC class I wish was longer...looked forward to it every week.

I never rate teachers,but this guy is the best I ever had,I loved him. took him twice! This is an enlightening experience and everyone should take this class.He is a bit dark, very smart and witty and funny as hell, entertainment savvy and encourages everyone,brings out the best. extremely easy grading, dont have to do anything, but I suggest u do!

Somers is the fricking best. He's the only teacher at smc who is actually truthful about the industry and how he feels about it. He knows A LOT of people and is currently working in the industry. Laid back about unimportant SMC rules, but deeply committed to motivating students and guiding them into writing scripts that will get attention from the film industry.
