there are several readings each week usually and they are long and dry and boring but that is what this class is about. he tries to make it a fun and interesting class for the topics covered. you have to go to lecture because there is iclicker participation. no midterm, only a final and it is quite hard.

This class was a really good introduction to philosophy and helps you to understand the basics of writing and reconstructing a good argument. The testing format is a little odd as there is only one, being the final, but as long as you do well on your papers it's not too big of a deal. Make sure you understand the key concepts.

Evan Tiffany is a great Prof to have for this class. PHIL 120W is based off many papers and Dr. Tiffany breaks them down clearly for you to understand. I enjoyed taking the class with him. He is very caring, engaging and funny. We had 3 papers and a final. Papers were simple and topics taught in this class were very interesting. Great Prof!!!

First time taking a class with Dr. Tiffany, and it was amazing! He is honestly one of the most kind and caring profs I've had so far. Super approachable, super caring, and really good at breaking down complicated papers. I would highly recommend taking this course with him. The course itself is reading and lecture heavy, but he makes it easier.

It is my first time taking a course with Dr. Tiffany. I found his lectures very intriguing, and he is very good at explaining complicated concepts and arguments. For a writing course, I found the structure and assignments of the papers very fair. TA was awesome which helped as well. Overall a very enjoyable class, good for a W credit!

NIce guy who's really passionate about what he's talking about, however, the way he talks is sooo boring. Lectures are important because of clicker questions, but they are BORING! my TA sucked but my friends TA was good, they mark papers VERY hard. The lecture slides get posted and they have useful info on them.

the worst phil prof I have had so far. I have never worked so hard in a course(reading every assigned readings 2+ times, studying so hard for the final exam, spending many hours on papers, coming to every lecture) and received such a low mark for my efforts. If you want discouragement in your academic life, take this prof.

Evan is an AMAZING professor. Admittedly, I developed a little bit of a crush on him within 3 seconds of his first lecture but it kept me focused and coming to class. He explains everything with such clarity and available for extra help too. His lectures are never dry. Evan, you da best! We had 3 papers I think, midterm (easy!) and a final

Really good prof, lots of readings, but if you don't do them all it's not the end of the world as her clearly explains everything during lecture. Minimal amount of writing, and as long as you studied the tests are fairly easy. Pretty good class, I took it as a w requirement and it was a really good decision.

my first sem at sfu, and I'm glad I have a class with Dr Tiffany. This is the only class I don't dread going to. He makes you think critically and encourages students to voice their own opinions. don't procrastinate on your papers!

I'm a phil major who has taken over 15 phil courses at SFU and I have never been so disappointed with a class before. It's not a writing course but we wrote five 1000 word papers and homework assignments each week that r at least another 700 words each. I never learned anything from attending lectures. Overall just bad. Too much work, no learning.

My biggest complaint is his commitment to charitability. He misunderstood a classmate of mine twice, assuming she was being uncharitable. I'd say that's pretty hypocritical, although he was trying to be fair.

Dr T was a nice guy. He highly encourages participation and often the 50 min class goes by too fast. very thought provoking class, heavy on the theory so know your kant/utilitarianism. didn't think i'd like the class at first, but I had an amazing TA, and ended with an A+. you need to really know how to write a good phil paper though. exams all MC

Took history of phil. II with him. Would never take a class with this prof again. Said "um" over 60 times in the first lecture. Monotone voice. In a class that had the potential to be interesting, I was really surprised at the quality. We went over divine foreknowledge/fatalism (though the concepts of fw/d were never explained well) way too much.

Evan was great. This was my first semester at SFU and I thought he was amazing. He loves to show tv shows during his class (Simpsons, South Park, etc....). 120W ranks right up there with the most thought provoking classes I have EVER had. Do your readings, ask questions, don't make assumptions, and challenge YOUR assumptions.

The material in can be brutally difficult at times so make sure you do the readings, attend class, & participate in discussion. Don't be afraid to ask for clarity. He marks pretty tough at this level but if you go to his office hours he will give you absolutely priceless tips on how to take your papers from fail to A. Be prepared to work hard!

I did pretty badly in this class, but Tiffany's a great prof. He renewed my interest in Philosophy. Actually interesting lectures. Hard marker on essays though and didn't write many helpful comments. I'd definitely take another class with him!

Lectures are kind of dry and boring, mainly due to prof's style of speech delivery. Frequent videos. Uses his own textbook, so it's free. Material on the surface appears difficult, but with some thought involved, this course can be very straightforward and simple. His study guides prepares you well for the exams, as it is very revealing.
