Took my Freshman Writing Seminar with a friend, and he made her cry. I feel like the atmosphere in that class just wasn't conducive to learning.

I had him for my Freshman Writing Seminar, he was really intimidating which made me not want to go to office hours. Extremely hard grader so go to office hours, know his stuff.

I had him for my Freshman Writing Seminar, and he can come off as intimidating, but he just really loves the English language and wants everyone in the class to as well. You need to have the right attitude- pay attention, participate, and DEFINITELY come to office hours. He's really nice and helpful after class.

Very original, intelligent professor. As long as you come into the class with the right attitude and don't slack off, the workload isn't that bad. Overall, definitely worth it.

The man is brilliant, concise, erudite, articulate and as communicative as you would ever desire a professor to be. He's also a stickler for professionalism, and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. What's the point of an easy class? I'm here to learn, and that's why I feel that Weedin is probably the best professor I've ever had.

i have only taken seminars with him, so i don't know if he would be a good introductory teacher, but for upper level classes he is by far my favorite teacher at vassar. if you aren't afraid of hard work and constructive criticism, he has the genius and the passion to really help you develop as a writer and a reader. LOVE HIM!

I get the feeling that everyone here either hated Weedin or loved him. Honestly, that's just he kind of prof he is guys. If you love to worship every syllable your prof utters, he's the man. He knows everything about the English language. If you only like talking in English classes, then not so much. But you will LEARN something with Weedin.

I had him many years ago, and the negative comments I've read don't jive with the man I knew. I did not conisder myself a writer at all, yet he liked my papers and told me once in his office that he was jealous because I never revised ! I just wrote and went with whatever I put down on paper.

This was one of my favorite classes at Vassar. An extremely tough grader, but personally very nice and incredibly enthusiastic in class. Has better insights into literature than pretty much anyone else in the English department. Goes for a traditional approach-don't expect Freudian /feminist/gender-based interpretations.

Worst grade I've gotten at Vassar, but I became an English major anyway. He will completely tear apart your papers and desecrate your writing style, but he'll make you a better reader and writer for sure. Don't turn anything late -- he is NOT flexible/understanding.

Just awful. It wasn't the reading or assignments - it was Weedin. Unbelievably condescending. Likes to initiate conversations by asking questions like, "How are you reeeeading Romeo and Juliet?" Asks questions only he knows the answer to. Dropped it halfway into the semester.

One of the most awful experiences of my life! He is hypercritical and merciless- don't take this class if you want to feel good about yourself. The books we read were interesting, but discussions were mostly painful and torturous. 1hr 15min couldn't have gone by any slower.

evil. Tries to make freshman cry, and judges your worth as a human being by your ability to write...his way. Avoid at all costs.

Claims to enjoy teaching because he learns from the students, but is really only interested in hearing what he wants to hear (even if it's complete bs). Not a very encouraging professor. Not the worst teacher, but not particularly recommended either.

He's thorough. though his paper assignments are not always crystal clear, he tells you what he does/does not like. I loved his class because he is passionate. We read from all different genres, all different time periods. He changed the way I read: now I think about the author putting the words down for a purpose. He's challenging, but excellent!

Weedin is a genius but very pretentious. He won't waste time answering questions that he deems unintelligent. He dominates all class discussion, weeding out anything that he doesn't find interesting contrary to students' opinions. hard grader + will stunt your individual writing style. stay away until you're comfortable with your writing abilities

if you've nothing original/interesting to say, stay away if you are up to a challenge, it is THE most rewarding class here.I left this class trembling some days.u MUST be focused & hard-working but if you want to have your mind blown, not your ego caressed, take him.He told me my 1stpaper was awful, but I ended up with an A after working my ass off.

If you have the balls to stay after the first day of class, you'll learn a lot. He's ridiculously smart and a little eccentric. However, he is HARD, will make you feel like crap, and accepts no excuses, even if they're legit, like a death in the family. Know his rules and follow them.
