Poor understanding of work load and awareness of schedules. Numerous heavy assignments each week that are worth very little. Can't tell if she talks to the class like 3 year olds or if its a passive aggressive thing but certainly did not look forward to going to her class.

Susan is a wonderful professor at UBC. Although she is tough, I found her to be so inspiring She is very passionate about writing and is always open to help give her students feedback so they can do better. As long as you attend class and ask for help you will do great in this course.

Dr. Blake is one of my favourite profs! She is so kind and caring about her students. She isn't a hard marker and her assignments really help you to stay on track with your research paper (which she really prepared us for). She also makes the topic of linguistic landscapes really interesting! Compared to my friends profs Dr. Blake was amazing

I did not expect this class to be as hard as it was. The amount of homework was ridiculous, especially when its only worth 1-5%. I felt as though Dr. Blake expected too much for a first year class. However, I did learn to write a research paper, but I think that was the only benefit.

Her class was honestly the worst class I've taken so far in university. She often has more than one assignment due every week, she takes forever to mark them and give you feedback on them, and the assignments often feel unnecessary . Some of her assignments are only worth like 1%, but require so much work. Treats the class like we're kids as well.

Honestly the worst class I've ever taken. I was taking it simply for the credit and it is my most demanding class. This professor expects an assignment to be done each week, and in some weeks there will be more than one assignment due. The expectations are almost always unclear. The reading is incredibly extensive. The lectures are dull.

Probably the worst class and professor I've ever experienced. The lowest grade of my degree so far. Unsure of both professor's expectations as well as what we were supposed to be learning. Almost exclusively group projects, no lectures. You learn nothing about academic writing Google couldn't tell you, for free, in five minutes.

SHE IS THE WROST PROF. EVER! most the students don't even understand what she's trying to teach . she is extremely vague on her assignments. most of the class needed to redo her assignment. do not take her. she makes WRDS dreadful.

Awful just awful experience. She first pretends she is open and tells you that you can choose any topic. She then tells you that everything you are trying to do is wrong and unacceptable. She says all the good things in your face then gives you awful marks that you just can't understand. Her grading criteria still remains unknown to every student.

Awful experience. She pretends like she's really helpful and tries to incite enthusiasm but it just fails miserably. Only helps certain people. Appears to be really open-minded about your ideas, but is actually very picky. If you don't agree with her, she will shut you out and not listen to your input. Difficult because she is disorganized!

Dr. Blake is really sweet. The course itself is seriously unbearable but Dr. Blake does her best to make it interesting. One thing her classes had different from other WRDS sections was that our final paper (and all the prep for it) was done in a group. I didn't bother skimming textbook until day before exam. Textbook is useless and really boring.

What a wonderful woman! Dr. Blake is first and foremost, genuinely passionate about linguistics. She manages to tie in the mandatory ASTU material to her field of study and makes the class relevant to all students. Highly recommend "Linguistic Landscapes" theme with her! Grades fairly and her assignments are flexible. Participate in class.

Wonderful prof - approachable and helpful. She seems genuinely interested in her students and the subject matter. Although she was unclear as to how the take-home assignment was graded, she was a pretty easy marker on everything else. Exams were pretty straightforward too.
