Dr. Farmer was an unusual math teacher in that he did not get bogged down in the formalism and vocabulary of math. Rather he taught conceptually. He used words like glob and stuff to make the concepts less threatening. If you wanted cookbook, this was not your guy. If you wanted to comprehend, however, he was.

He is extremely boring and you need to have a pretty good understanding of Calculus before you take his class or you can't keep up. I honestly can say he is the worst math teacher I've had, in examples in class he would start a problem, get tired of showing the steps and say "by magic" you get the solution. Kinda hard to learn that way.

Knows his stuff but does not explain it well. Explains everything once. Homework is basiclly your grade, grades it very harshly. Tests are easy but the homework will overwelm you, not so much the amount but you basiclly need to do every problem to perfection. Not personable at all often forgets names and past conversations

Franks a good teacher. He's hard to hear sometimes, so sit in the front. Homework will kill your grade, so try hard on it. His tests are real easy just review the HW and his examples on the board. His tests test your ability to apply the concepts; he doesn̢۪t throw in complicated questions. You'll hear a lot of "bobble head time."

He knows his stuff and he will teach you how to do it correctly. However, he is really lazy. It takes him forever to return your tests and homework, and the homework is harshly graded. forgot to tell the class his homework was due on the next day but he still collected it so almost everyone failed the homework assignment. Must do well on hw for an

Makes this class much harder than it has to be. On top of that his voice puts you to sleep. extremely lazy as well, takes almost 2 weeks to return hw that is poorly graded. He expects you to know everything the first time he explains it, which is done terribly. I don't recommend taking any of the calc courses with this guy. He is no help at all.

Farmer is the man. In addition to his amazing mustache, he explains with great clarity. When the book is hard to follow, he writes his own, easier summaries. He tells you exactly what's on the test. Homework is vital to a good grade, as the tests are not difficult but harshly graded and given during class- so you only have 50 mins. Stressful.

Gives the grade that you deserve. If you want an A you can get one as long as you are willing to do the work associated with it. If you know the material tests and final are very easy. He only gives problems that work out nice. Expect to look at the book for help and most importantly go to class and do the homework.

I would never take a class from this professor again. Unless you are a genius, it is almost impossible to get a good grade. Despite the fact that calc 2 is just plain hard, he makes it a death trap. Ridiculous!

This professor is absolutely ridiculous. He is so unclear, he rattles off problems and notes and expects you to get it right away; if you don't, he makes you feel really stupid. He is a horrendous teacher; he may know his stuff but he canNOT communicate with students at all! Would not take him!

I must say, I'm confused as to how this guy got such a "high" rank. For the first 2 weeks all he did was remind people to drop the class. He made is quite clear he did not enjoy teaching. Of the 11 people. who continued on with the class, less than 1/2 passed. Gradebook here: http://math.la.asu.edu/~farmer/cls/2003/Spring/mat271s/idn271s.html

Dr. Farmer is a great teacher. I had him many many years ago. During each week, only about 15 people showed up for the class. during the tests 100+ showed up. Show up for the class and learn everything from this great Professor. cheers

Calc II is naturally difficult, but Farmer manages to make it just a little more so by using random ideas he's come up with and substitue variables with words and what not. If you don't pay carefully attention, you could get lost very easily. Also, every time the answer is pretty obvious, he says "booble-head time" it's pretty annoying!

I had Dr. Farmer for Calculus 1 and I highly recommend him. Beware: he does not allow calculators in his class so if you are calculator dependent, he is not the professor for you. He is very helpful and very easy to understand. He also enjoys playing the renaissance lute, and having an awesome beard. Rock on, Dr. Farmer!
