Dr. Marchese was an awesome prof! He clarified some concepts to me that I learned over the years in such a way that I never understood them before. The only issue with his Personality course, and I heard from other courses as well, is that he only have us 2 shots - 1 midterm (45%) and a final (55%) : this doesn't allow much room for improvement.

THERE IS A LOT OF MATERIAL. READ THE SLIDES AND THE TEXTBOOK (he tells you exactly what you need to know). He doesn't really say anything new you need to know in lecture, so you don't need to go ... BUT, he's genuinely such a neat guy. If you got an extra couple hours, just sit in class and listen to him talk. You'll learn a tonne of cool stuff.

One of my favourite profs at York! Students who did not enjoy the course state it's because he 'gets off topic' and I couldn't disagree more. Marchese goes above and beyond the content. He sparks meaningful discussions and forces you to critically think about the material. Above that he inspires you to apply what you're learning to daily life.

I wouldnt recommend attending lectures as he diverges from whats being tested and one chapters lecture will take weeks. If you know the textbook inside out and read his lecture notes you can easily obtain an A based on the two exams.

Amazing prof. Know the textbook like the back of your hand and you are guaranteed an A in any of his courses! His lectures are slow paced but extremely informative. He will diverge a lot from the content you are supposed to know for the test, but if you truly love psychology, everything he has to say is so interesting! Great sense of humour.

Extremely boring class. One chapter of the textbook will be covered over two lectures because he constantly diverges. I stopped attending class. The textbook is extremely dry and surrounded with information that has no value to the course. He also has his own book that he tests you on which you have to know about. Lots of reading in the course.

Most boring class ever. Horrible lecturer too and his slides are very poorly laid out. S Honestly, I didn't go to class, just read the textbook and did just fine. If you did well in PSYC1010 this will be the same. If you take this, it's not the end of the world, just dont expect it to be interesting

TEDIOUS! Do NOT take his class. Lectures: tedious. He doesn't post lecture material to encourage attendance (sign of poor lectures), and constantly diverges from the lecture material. Textbook: tedious. not to mention he makes you buy HIS book which is unrelated to course material. If you need the course, find a different professor.

I will repeat many comments, lectures are fall asleep boring. Constantly rambles off topic, jumps from topic to topic and chapter to chapter making lectures difficult to follow. Textbook was brand new but felt like 30 years old simply by the way it is presented. Very disengaging. Makes you buy HIS book as well & tests on it. Enjoy the retirement $

Do not take this class! please listen to me. you actually have to memorize a 400 pages textbook to ace the course and trust me it's not easy. the book is terribly boring and his lectures are even worse. he just repeats everything irrelevant again and again till you wanna hang yourself & the tests are pretty hard for a second year psyc course!

Hardly went to his lectures solely because I didn't like his lecture style and I did better reading the textbook at home. He makes you buy his book called Coming Into Being and tests you on it (but it's easy to remember). Exams were a bit tough (MC, matching, 1 mandatory SA, and a choice between SA- I think 3/6 or something). Overall, an OK course

Easiest a+ I ever got. His lectures may be boring because he repeats everything, but if you read the textbook, you don't even need to attend his lectures. He also posts study guides and other questions for you to know. Ignore al the negative comments. I'm a B student but got an a+ with minimal effort. Couldn't be happier with this prof!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the worst profs I've ever had. He is not approachable at all and very rude. He doesn't care if you do well or not, but thts understandable cuz he makes you buy his book which is not even relevant and he makes money that way. The lectures are horrible + nt very organised and he goes off on many tangents. Not worth the stress+$ for 3 credits

Boring and dry lectures. The textbooks were even more boring than the lectures. 2 tests determine your entire grade. Also, there were a few moments where it felt like he was almost making fun of students or his TA's. Would not recommend taking his class and I most definitely will be avoiding his classes in future.

His lectures are immensely boring and like lots of other comments mention, they rarely relevant. There are only two exams which make up the entirety of your final grade. He posts some but not all of the lectures and when he does, he doesn't actually post 100% of the slides. Basically the only way to pass is memorise your entire textbook.
