Gabriela is a great professor, she knew I sucked at Spanish but still tried to help me the best I could. She does explain things well, but I think she could try and make some of what she teaches more fun/interesting. If you have never taken Spanish before I would not recommend this course (take 100A) but if you have then take this class!

Comment:

Gabriela is an amazing professor. Her coursework is hard, but she is there to help you if you need it. She is one of the most caring professors out there. Just be ready to work because if you fall behind in her class it is extremely difficult to catch up.

Gabriella is a great teacher. Very friendly and explains everything thoroughly and clearly. Class pace could be a little bit fast for first time language student. Most of the class consists of answering questions from the book aloud, which seems to work fine but can become a little repetitive after a while.

I have taken 4 language classes at UVic, and this one was my least favorite. McBee is a difficult marker, doesn't exlain concepts deep enough, and the class moves way too fast. That being said however, many people really enjoyed her. It really depends on your personal preference.

Professor McBee is AMAZING ! Very warm, helpful, VERY considerate, patient and loves her language and so does her student! took this class Winter 2011 and I never thought I would look forward to going to an 8:30am class soo much! She is well researched and knowledgeable about the culture as well being a researcher herself Muchas Gracias Profesora!

Comment:

Sra. Mcbee is one of the best professors I have had in my life. Most of the class was of the same opinion, though the class moves extremely fast and you -will- be overwhelmed without previous experience in Spanish. She expects a lot from you but she cares about her students a great deal which is rare. I enthusiastically recommend.

McBee is a really nice woman, however she spends way too long explaining concepts that are extremely easy and then skims over other parts in minutes. She is really helpful and always seems happy to teach, but since everything is right from the book (which is way too expensive... $160/180 depending) it's pretty boring and not a challenging class.

awesome prof.challenging, fair, understanding. fun too. great assignments. teaches spanish in a worldly sense, not just from an oldschool spain perspective, which is out of date. best spanish teacher at uvic, hands down. tough exams, but you will learn if you want to.

If you have the option of taking a class with McBee or Stewart, definitely pick Stewart. McBee, while she is very helpful outside of class, seems to rush through the difficult concepts and spends way too much time on the easy ones. Not terrible, but certainly not the best prof in the department. I won't be taking any more classes with her though.

excellent prof who makes ordinarily dry topics interesting. very patient and prepares you well for the department-standardised tests. always helpful with extra clarifcation when needed and overall a very nice lady. definitely take 100A with her!
