Comment:

I thought she was nice most of the year, but she cannot teach whatsoever. She says a lot without saying anything.. You go through hundreds of pieces only to have 14 on the exam. She said she would give a slide list and did not. She was not at all clear about what she wanted and was so difficult to speak with. I'd avoid her at all costs.

Gail Chin is an adorable cuddley-wuddley with a monotonous voice and a sphenisciformous waddle. One recent study suggests that attending Gail's lectures may serve as an effective treatment for insomnia.

Sooooo hard to stay awake in this class; make sure you get a good night's sleep. I would literally have to leave in the middle of lectures and walk around for a bit so I didn't fall asleep. I like her as a person, and I think people are too hard on her, but she is reeeeally dry.

Meh. I had her last year... meh. Funny person to listen to at first, made class a little more interesting. But when it came to the exams, the art pieces that she considers important to study are not necessarily what you feel is important. Hence, lower grades than what you feel you actually deserve, after days and days of studying.

She is a very nice person, and will help people even when she does not have to. I have had some problems with her but compared to most profs she is good. She tends to add exams wrong and deduct marks for odd things. Don?t expect the mark you deserve. And don?t even try going to her about mark problems. I would take another class from her though.

I was quite frustrated with her but she wasn't as bad as some of the reviews on here. She marked by paper with easy standards but when it came to her tests, they sucked. i studied all weekend and still managed a 70 on the final.

I really like Gail! she's super sweet and she really loves Art History. I don't think that she really enjoys the content of Art History 100 though- She posts the slides so attendance isn't really mandatory. Hard midterm- easy writing assignments.But You have to be willing to work for a good mark.

Clearly had favorites in the class, which was both obvious & unprofessional. She spent most class time asking what certain students "thought", so I didn't actually learn much of anything in the end because the student comments were simply uninformed guesses. I got an ok mark because I busted my butt, but I would never again take a class from Gail

I think other bad reviews are because fine arts students are taking the class, maybe. She's pretty charismatic and open and knowledgeable, if you're comparing her to the average Faculty of Arts prof. I like her a lot and if you need help or you're particularly interested in something, just ask. I've learned a lot from her.

She is very misleading. She often missed class. The slide list is over 100 slides, dates, what its made of, creator etc and there are ONLY 6 on the actual exam!!!! Exams are brutal!

BEFORE i fell asleep in each class i would dream about blasting my face off, just to end the hell. She was like the joker, always trying to trick us with sketchy questions. One question on her midterm was not in any notes and was one sentence in the text. i kid you not. this woman is a boob.

Great, funny, down-to-earth lecturer. She has a deep knowledge of Asian art and a passion for it. I'd love to take a class just on Chinese art history from her. Exams are easy as pie. She'll tell you what's on them, basically, during the review. Can't speak for ARTH100 lectures, but her Asian art lectures are great.

Class was dull. Misleads students as to what is important to know, but usually does not put this on the exams. Exams are very detailed, and one needs to memorize the slide list as this will be half the exam. Students need to read the text as the rest of the exam is general but very detailed. She is prepared,knowledgable, but not very interesting.

She makes an otherwise interesting topic completely boring. I have been bored to tears every time I attended class. She goes off on tangents very often and it's tough to decipher when she is talking about relevant material and when she is talking about her trip to the Louve. DO NOT take this class from her.

She cancelled MORE CLASSES than I've had cancelled TOTAL in the last 3 semesters by every lecturer. I can't believe I paid for this class! She is very knowledgable of the subject, but spends most of her time on social commentary and banter rather than teaching when she is there. Says the word "kay" like it was going out of style.

Very disappointing. Gail is a great prof when she is there. Her lectures are very interesting and she is very helpful outside of the class. However, she very inconsistent with her attendance and her instructions about exams. This class was a giant waste of time. I am not sure she takes this class seriously enough to bother showing up.

She can really be a great lecturer, but she screwed our whole class over. For the questions on the midterm that ask for dates, we were supposed to be able to have them within the nearest century and it wasn't marked this way. She also went MIA halfway through the semester and was replaced. Very disappointed, but if you wand to take the chance...

Have to admite was very worried about taking these classes after ArtH 100(bad hard monotone), But Gail has changed. She's Fun, Upbeat, VERY helpfull, and hell even has a sense of humor... Who knew? She's not easy, but when you pay attention or need help outside of class she's more than willing to help. Great teacher and interesting classes!

Gail is a good prof. She grows on you. She is super intelligent. I'm a BFA and I have to take a lot of arth, but in the end, she knows her Arth, you just can't think that half assing it will get you through. And she's understanding if things aren't going so well outside school.
