Comment:
Gail is definitely intimidating, but whenever I approached her she was very supportive and helpful. Lecture was always very interesting, and her exams were very fair. But the lab group project--good god, can we all just agree to abolish group projects after middle school? Awful. Also, B's are abundant and should be expected.

Gail will challenge you & you will enjoy this class. However, she is not a pleasant person. She is cold and not helpful when you seek any time after class with her. Most times talking to her, you question why you even came in the first place. She has a great knack for making you feel like a complete idiot. Don't take class if you're sensitive

Gail is a very well read professor, I would not say that she is brilliant, she is smart and educated and has been in academia for many years, that does not mean she is brilliant. A brilliant person would have more apathy for their students and would be interested in the success of their students and not so much their own endeavors. She is mean.

She is really smart, but also very easygoing. She is not easygoing on grade or reading, but I feel relaxed around her. She really wants you to be knowledgeable at the end of the semester. And as for some saying she is intimidating...well, maybe. I mean, she is incredibly smart and she tries hard not to be annoyed by narrow minded stupidity.

One of the most brilliant professors I have ever had! She can be intimidating, but only because she is obviously extremely smart...and helpful if you ever need something clarified. A challenging class, but would never have missed a day because it was always the highlight of my week.

Gail Hornstein is absolutely fantastic. I left her class feeling truly inspired. As an educator, she balances her expansive knowledge of the course material with humor infused through her captivating/ non-traditional lectures. If you can, take a class with Hornstein before you graduate. You will be challenged, however, stimulated.

You have to work your butt off for this class- about nine books to read... But the professor is very clear and very fair. Nice person. Don't take it if you don't like reading about mad people and sex. But do if you loving interpretating people and want some challenging reading!

Comment:
Gail is generally a very effective, dynamic lecturer, though some classes do drag on. She comes off as a bit too full of herself and overly sarcastic, and therefore is not extremely approachable. Tests are hard but fair -- really know your material. The class structure for Methods very positively allowed for a lot of student exchange of ideas.
