Comment:

I enjoyed the class and worked hard completing all of my paintings with a sense of pride. Many of the works I went on to sell. However I received a D and when I tried to meet with her to find out why she was completely inaccesible. She seemed more preoccupied with her own work and success rather than her students. A great artist but a poor teacher.

Worst fine arts teacher ever taken. Expects only HER techniques and style to be followed, I felt like each assignment was essentially to copy another, no room for innovation. We were all grumpy in an 830am class, but there was not a single day where she wasn't rude to me. I despised painting that semester.

Gail is fantastic! If you put effort into your work and you talk to her a lot and listen to her feedback, you will learn. She's there to help and if you ignore what she has to offer, of course you won't do well in her class. Wasn't as bad as I had expected.

Do not take this class if you think this is going to be a traditional drawing class, its a mixed media course and you will NOT improve as a drawer. She will emphasize symbolism in your work when we should be working on technique. In any case, it will become a drag to go class after awhile.

Gail is fair! If you don't go to class and ignore her constructive criticism you will do poorly. However, if you try and work hard on your paintings you will do fine. Take her class and you will for sure become a better painter

Gail Roberts is a professional painter. She is there to push you to be a better painter. Just show her effort to learn and you'll be happy. If you take what she says as an insult, then you have no business being an art major. There are waaay more critcal teachers out there, Gail is pretty cool.

I learned a lot from her class. She gives you quality feedback that will make your paintings better. If you don't know how to paint, you might get a bad grade though. If you're serious about art and do your work you'll get an A. There really aren't that many assignments. Ask for feedback and she'll help you. A good class if you can commit yourself

Gail is a mixed bag. While she promotes experimentation she tends to pull in the reigns when you've gone outside her conventional thought. She's more fair than Janet or Richard but lacks their edge, especially in crits. In her favor, she is very good at assessing styles and assigning artist research projects that improve work.

Comment:

Gail wants to teach those who want to learn. If you take her and her assignments seriously, she responds with equal enthusiasm. I learned more from her in a shorter period of time than I have from any other art teacher. My work is of a much higher caliber than ever before. I feel that is in large part in thanks to Gail.

I took this class in spring '05, and was horrible. She has a way of making you work hard for nothing. You cannot use your own technique in painting, only hers. Writing assignments is to much! Her grading is not good, GOOD LUCK!

She is very set in her ways, does not like people who have a style other than hers. If you don't paint landscapes good luck trying to gain her respect. Thanks to Gail I am now a nursing major...I could not take another semester with her as my teacher.
