Take this class with him! His lectures go the full time, but he has a lot of great examples and knowledge. He cracks some jokes and overall its not bad. Each class has a quiz so go to class or you miss out on 20 pts per class. The homework is easy and helpful. Exams every 2 chapters (which only help your grade bc less material).

Comment:

Dunbar gives good lectures and is very passionate about Neuroscience, sometimes they can get a little boring when he goes off on tangents. You can curve all of your previous test scores to the final exam score, so if you get an A on the final you automatically get an A in the class regardless of your previous scores. Tons of reading.

Dr Dunbar is an amazing professor. he is very passionate about neuroscience and makes the lectures very interesting. there is a "quiz" after every lecture but you can use your notes and there's a test every other week. Dr. Dunbar is an extremely fun teacher. Though his lectures weren't the most helpful, they were enjoyable to go to. He almost made sure people were engaged. It's pretty difficult class, but his grading scale made it pretty easy for me to get an A. You need the book though. It's essential to passing. All questions come from that company's test bank.

This can be an extremely hard class without prior biology background. There are tests every two weeks over 2 chapters, and these chapters can be long -- and boring. There is a final exam that will replace any bad grade you get on the exams leading up to the final exam. That is what saved me. Study hard for the final.

Amazing guy. Loves his job and it shows. Totally brilliant. He might lose you when he goes of on tangents but if you read and go to class you'll do well. You can't skip a day though. He does a final that can replace all lower grades for the semester. favorite prof.

Gary is my favorite professor at CMU. Have worked in his lab (PSY 496 and 385) and taken the only classes he teaches (PSY 387 and 487). Very knowledgeable and helpful if/when you need it. Learned more from him than anyone else in my college career. Fun guy as well.

Great teacher! He is entertaining/friendly and makes the material interesting. Very helpful. Explains material well. But don't get me wrong, the class is not easy and you must read the book. However, Dunbar makes tough material easier to learn!

Great Professor. Almost every essay is given to you word for word in class, and all you have to do is write exactly what he says. Memorize the essays for the exams and you will do fine. I never read the book & got an A-, even though he only covers 80% of the exam material in class. The grade you get on the final replaces all previous worse grades.

You sit through a lecture, you do a pathetically easy essay, and then you take a test which comes straight from the book and you do poorly (but that's ok because you do the easy essays and it saves your grade). I don't see where the learning comes in this picture. I was so excited to take his class and I left disappointed.

Very hard without a science background. He is funny, but the material is hard!! Attend every class the in class essays will save your grade! Study the book before class begins if you get an A on the first exam you do not have to attend class! Memorize the for the tests. Go to the teacher assistants for help.

Dr. Dunbar makes this class interesting. You have to write essays that are extremely easy at the end of each lecture that help your grade a ton! Also, the essays on the tests are the ones that were done in class. I would definitely recommend Dr. Dunbar for any classes you could take with him. He makes the content fun and interesting.

Dunbar rules. You have to show up, but most of the time, it's worth it because he makes an insanely complicated subject easier to understand, and even entertaining at times. His grading system makes it really easy to pass the class too. I went from a solid D to an A- overnight. Just don't ask him what an indellible memory is...

Gary is the most intelligent neuroscientist CMU could ever hope for! I have never learned so much from any other class. This class is not a blow off, but if brain functions is what you're interested in you'll love it! He really wants his students to pass and will do all in his power to see to it. His lectures are VERY informative and entertaining!
