Prof. Gillis is a great teacher and really engages his class. His lectures are fun and never boring, and the tests are not impossibly difficult. There is not much homework except labwork, which is all very interesting. The only complaint I had was that the textbook was really not important and pretty expensive.

Fantastic professor who definitely was enthusiastic about his material. Very engaging and personal with each student in the class. Glad I didn't skip this for Bio 200 as the material covered was vastly different from my IB Bio HL material. Definitely recommend his classes.

I took Comparative Vertebrate Physiology. It was absolutely fascinating and I found it very fun and easy. Gary's a fun instructor and I still stop by his office regularly just to chat. One big project, in which you pick an animal and talk about some adaptive feature it has. Very interesting class, and I enjoyed it immensely.

Prof. Gillis is the perfect ideal for a liberal arts teacher. He clearly loves what he teaches and his enthusiasm shows in every class. Very fair with homeworks. And very helpful, to the extent of one on one consultations. His knowledge of biomechanics is limitless. Strongly recommend this course next spring.

Smart, funny, clearly adores his subject. Lectures are never boring; keeps us all entertained and learning. I love bio and he made me love it more, although it was hard work. There was little homework except for labs. Don't bother with the textbook, just take good lecture notes. Ruthless tests but class was well worth it. His kids are adorable! <3

Gary is nice, but his tests are painful. Expect to do worse than you imagined. This class will bring my nearly perfect gpa down. I'm normally great in science, so take that as a warning.

Gary was great! He is strict about details, and he LOVES graphs. He also adds funny anecdotes and strays from the typical Bio 101 class to spark interest for the subject as a whole, and it definitely worked! I learned so much that I never expected to learn in this class.

Biol/ Chem 160 is a hard class, but is definitely worth taking for any science major - only one lab per week. Hard class, but not bad if you're willing to put in a lot of work. I think everyone should take one of Gary's classes.

Details, details, details. The man is picky about details. And his exams are hard as it is. Prepare to be shocked at your grades when you put minimal effort in. Flipside isn't much better, though: prepare to be shocked even when you do study. His lectures however are intriguing, and he is very engaging, and very entertaining. Worth it, if you work!

His class was amazing. His lectures were always clear and he always looked so happy to teach. He was anecdotal and fun every day. His tests are soooooo hard, but if you put in the work good grades are easy to get. He is so approachable and nice in and out of class. Take a class with him if you can. It was awesome!!!

his class is too easy, but he's an amazing professor. he embodies everything a liberal arts professor should be: approachable, friendly, intelligent, and a rainmaker with prestigious grants. i hope he applies for, and gets, tenure at mhc.

He's a very good teacher; he's clear, consise, apathetic to the students' varying learning levels and understanding. The tests can be difficult but with the ight amount of studying, an A is very possible.

gillis is one of the best profs i've had. i could listen to him lecture for hours. i'd still be premed if i could take every class with him. his exams are def. tough... but i think they set high standards to scare away non-serious students at the intro level.
