Awesome man. He gave good feedback. Be prepared to read out loud in class. He taught me a lot of stuff I need for my major. He will give you his straight up opinion on your work. He will tell you if you are fit for a journalism career or not. He's older and does NOT like technology. Go to office hours if you need to talk to him.

Things you must know: Grades are only based on tests and a book review. Get the book. Do not miss class. (If you do, borrow notes). This is a lecture only class. Other than that, Mayer is funny. He does not usually answer emails and he puts nothing online, which is frustrating. The tests are hard and require in depth studying.

Nothing is on D2L, so make sure to keep your papers. Very big on grammar so good luck 301. When I took him for MCM 205 nobody got above a B. He's a very tough grader. You have to study for test. If you can avoid taking him, try to.

Dr. Mayer is an overall good professor. He knows a lot about the subject and explains it fairly well. The only issues I had were that he is very lecture heavy but with no power point. He is simply just telling you word for word what to write down. There are three test and two papers. The test include questions from the book, movies and his lectures

Dr. Mayer gave very clear lectures. Get the book, there is material on the tests from chapters not mentioned in lecture. There is one paper (book review) that is an easy grade. Tests aren't too long and gives bonus points.

Hated him. I'm dreading taking any more of his classes. He never replied to my emails, every time I would go to his office, even if we had an appointment, he would either not be there or tell me another time. He got off topic so much that I needed his help. I have ADHD, that kind of confusion really didn't help and I ended up failing the class.

Ugh this class was semi interesting to mainly boring. His class is just him talking from start to finish. No notes, just him talking. His test are 60-70 questions long and about half are fill it in. He talks fast and doesn't like it when you ask him to repeat what he said. Take a laptop if you're a slow writer.

Lectures drag on and cover so much material that a simple bathroom break will have you lost. Speaking of, don't go to the bathroom; he doesn't like that. Tests are insanely long and there are 5 of them. Not helpful when seeing him outside class as he gets off topic very easily. That happens in lectures as well.

He's very entertaining at times, but he gets off topic way too often. Then he puts his off topic lectures on the test, so be sure to write every little thing down. He doesn't know the material for the media 101 class since he does not even use technology. I would not recommend taking anything from him.

Dr. Mayers class is awesome, if you have to have him as a professor, you'll love his humor and stories that he uses to explain things. It really keeps, what could be an extremely boring class(es), fun

He rambles about references you don't care about. But his notes are relevant to the test and his papers are max 3 pages. So work wise, he's easy, but lecture pure is torture. If you miss 3 classes he lowers your grade and he HATES lateness.

Dr. Mayer spent most of the time making jokes and talking about useless stuff. He grades extremely hard. I liked him a lot because he made life references. But when it came to the lab assignments they were very tricky and confusing. Have to be really creative for him

I love mayor, hes very sweet but he baffles about nothing. You have to have a sense of humor to get through his class, and they are all taught the same. the work isn't hard, but if you don't study it will show, because its simple things a normal student wouldn't pay attention to. And make sure use the book!

I took Dr. Mayer for communication classes almost 10 years ago. In all honesty I can't remember what my exact grade was; however I still remember the grammar lessons. Great professor. His odd style of teaching leaves you no choice but to remember his lessons years after you've taken his class.

He is a very odd professor. He does have off-the-wall humor but besides that he's a pretty nice professor. As far as class goes it's a challenging class if you do not have a good basis of grammar/punctuation etc. MAKE SURE you go to LABS/CLASS!

You won't be sure what to make of him at first. Mayer sure is one of a kind. Alot of times it's 'Mayer Comedy Hour' which can be distracting, but how exciting can comm law really be? At least you'll get a good laugh. And he does truly care.

I couldn't stand this guy at first, he's hard has a quirky sense of humor and I didn't get him. But he grew on me. He cares more about his students than any prof. I've known. You will learn loads from this guy. He is very personable and will connect with students when they need his help. You will be a better overall student because of him.
