If I could take Dr. Newell for every single class I would. He's probably the smartest professor in the entire university (besides maybe Fox). He loves Theory a lot and it shows. He can turn a tricky concept into basically 5 year old terms, making it easy to understand.

Hands down the best teacher I've ever had, and probably the best professor at NKU. He is a brilliant individual, who truly understands the subject material. He takes extremely complex concepts and explains them in a way that makes you wonder why you ever thought it was difficult.

Comment:

Dr. Newell is very knowledgeable about the material and his lectures are captivating. Makes stuff really easy, grades really easy, always willing to help out students who try to do well. He is extremely hilarious with his frequent rants, most of which involve him indirectly cussing out students who didn't show up to class or tried cutting corners.

Comment:

Easily the best professor I've had at NKU. He is very funny, and very good at teaching the material. Let's you use book, notes, slides on tests (sometimes a compiler too). His tests aren't obnoxiously difficult like other professors. Assignments are challenging but he is VERY fair in his grading. He is also very willing to help you out. GREAT.

Dr. Newell really knows what he's talking about. Doesn't take attendance but you'll be lost if you skip class. He assigns 5-6 programs for homework. If you're stuck, email him and he will help. Practice programs bc you won't learn from just the lectures. Go to class, take notes, do programs when he does them on the board, & study & you'll be fine.

By FAR one of the best professors at NKU. If I can take a class with him versus another professor, I will. Engaging, easy to listen to and funny. Very knowledgeable. I've had him for about 5 classes. For all classes, material may be difficult but he always finds a good way to explain it and will work with you if you do not understand. Awesome!

Awesome Professor! Easy class, but if it's not for you, he's there to help. All tests were open book or open note. Labs are amazingly helpful. Lectures are quite boring, but you can skip those if you want, in my opinion. Awesome.

Prof Newell took over for another teacher who had to leave in the middle of the semester. The difference in teaching quality was night and day - for the better. Newell takes arcane concepts and makes them understandable. He can TEACH.

He really does a good job explaing the material and showing you hands exactly what he is teaching. Attendance is not mandatory at all, but it is good to go to get all the information. He post notes on blackboard which is a bonus if you skip. Study these notes to do good on test. Sometimes he has a bit of attitude but it can be funny at times.

Extremely hard Theory class, but Newell did a good job teaching the material. Very unorganized, which is his only downfall really. Changes homework/exams after we're given them because he doesn't try them out beforehand! But otherwise good - amusingly bitter and makes class as enjoyable as possible.

Love Prof. Newell - exams are difficult but he gives you everything you need in the notes - he is open for questions and is extremely nice. He "shows" you without just telling you how to do something. Great Professor!
