His lectures are pretty boring but I feel like I learned a TON of information that I can carry on into future Sociology classes. He's extremely intelligent but can be very disorganized which can make lectures difficult. DON'T MISS LECTURES - -- He will literally give you specific information for tests that otherwise would've been way too specific

His lectures are dull, his train of thought is extremely scattered, and he rarely makes sense in class. When he gives his lectures he is always jumping around and he doesn't really clarify or explain his topics. If you want to understand anything in the class, you must read the text. He constantly takes role, attendance counts as participation.

Great teacher! Prof Rolison is hilarious and seems to enjoy teaching. Read the book The New Jim Crow early, attend lectures, complete the study guide and you'll do fine. TIP: He is big on backing your ideas with fact so cite your ideas!

Gary Rolison was the best teacher ever!!! He is demanding but more than fair. Someone wrote that race was a sore topic with professor Rolison which is not the case and never could be. I had him for several classes and race never ever was an issue. All I can say is that he is brilliant and caring!!!!!!

Would not take him again. Lectures are dry and boring. He asks the class to speak on controversial topics without creating a setting for such discussions. He gets VERY upset if you try in any way to disagree with him, instead of respectfully discussing viewpoints. Race can be a difficult topic to talk about and in no way does he make it any easier.

I REALLY do not understand how there are any good reviews for this AWFUL professor. The only good thing about him is it does not require a lot of work, but it he is the most boring, unorganized, idiotic professor I have ever had. Made me dread school, by far the worst professor ever! Avoid taking him at ALL costs!!!!!!

He is very scattered. As long as you take notes, get involved in conversation, and read, you will be fine. He is very nice, but you have to help him out by getting involved in discussion. The material is very interesting. He gives you everything you will need for the exams.

He is lazy, unorganized, very unclear of what he wants from you, shuts you down from talking if you don't agree with him or the other "Bros" in the class. Going to office hours you get nothing-I would not recommend him at all-especially if you are white. I think he is prejudice himself. I got an A but still would NOT recommend him.

He's a great professor & really knows his stuff. I think we made it hard on him 'cos our class sucked at discussions, but he still worked w/us even though we didn't have feedback. He really wants us to understand and learn. Tests do require studying. Sometimes unclear, nonchalant, but all in all he is good. Very intelligent. Good class to take!

This instructor is the best I have had since I started at CSUSM. He's funny, interesting, and kind. Lots of facts and new ideas and extremely intelligent and engaging to talk to. I hope the rest of the course is this easy.

This is what teaching is all about. He absolutley cares about what he is doing! Loved this guy. This class was interesting, I learned so much and he is truly a caring person who really wants to see students succeed. I highly recommend his class plus he is very easy, gives you all the info. before tests.

Class was boring, but he tried to make it more interesting. Hard to understand material but he grades easy so even if you don't really understand the subject you'll do well. Wants everyone to succeed and will bump up your grade if he can. Cool teacher, though I don't recommend taking a 4 hour class with him.
