I've taken him for 3 courses, and I ADORE him. I recommend to everyone!!! Lectures are amazing, he's so funny and makes class easy. Tests in all classes are straight forward, he does not want anyone to do bad. Buy the books, take notes, and just listen they're all easy A's. I've made A's in all 3 of the classes I've taken. office hours help!!!

Love, Dr. D! He shows lots of videos that could probably be watched outside of class and you really need to read the textbooks for the tests. Doesn't give study guides, but tells you pretty much what you need to look over. Fun field trips and an old-school style that's honestly really refreshing. Go to class and put some effort in and you'll be OK.

Not much work outside of his classes but make SURE to take notes because anything he writes or plays for videos is fair game. I didn't put enough effort into the class, but his grading scale is harder for a reason. If you try on your papers, take notes, and actually study the tests are straight forward but you have to KNOW the terminology.

Literally one of the best professors I've had thus far, and I'm in grad school. I had him for 260, which is difficult just because it's a bit dull, but he makes it fun. Also for death and dying and aging and the family. He's incredibly knowledgeable, funny, kind, and very willing to help out his students. Do the work and you'll get an A

Such a hard grader and unfair. All you do is watch movies so you thin the class is easy but the then final is so hard. He is a nice man, but nice doesn't get you a good grade. He also does not give good feedback on papers. Just tells you to try harder.

Second time taking him, he is amazing! his lectures are very funny, what he puts on the board is what is on the test, he always gives study guides. 1 paper due. has a book in this class but you don't really need it. I would deff take him again for any other classes i have.

One of the kindest and funniest professors at CofC, and it's amazing that he's nearly 90 and still teaches! The class is mainly lecture-based, but sometimes there are videos. An easy A if you come to class, do well on the paper, and study for the tests. For the tests he gave us a study guide that outlined exactly what we needed to study!

I LOVE DR. DICKINSON! He's extremely funny, so sweet, and is pretty lenient on a lot of things. He'll work with you on exam dates (if you have to take them later or earlier) and he curves them. He switches up class with videos and trips. I have him at 8 am and I never mind going! Favorite class and favorite professor so far :)

FANTASTIC hilarious anecdotes that keep heavy death topics light. He genuinely cares about you learning & warns you before emotionally heavy topics or videos. He mainly used the textbook, he wrote it, so, that may be the reason he didn't lecture as much. Two class trips to a cemetery & funeral home, one paper, and three tests. TAKE HIS CLASS!

Dr. Dickinson is an excellent professor. If you attend class and take good notes as well as asking questions about the study guide then you will make an A. There is 1 paper assignment and 3 test. If you do everythignt that he says then you will do well. I never had to use the book for this course.

Great professor, if you can handle his random digressions. Tests are inconsistent in terms of material covered--some have nothing from textbook and others are mostly textbook based, so study it just in case. Overall highly recommended!

He is a great professor! Such a nice guy and extremely funny. Very helpful but I found the tests to be a little difficult. No homework- just 4 tests and a 3 page paper. A great person.

good "grandaddy" type! But GRADING SYSTEM IS A LITTLE OH NO!! 90-92 is B+ and 80-82 is a C+ So a little challenging to get an A Read your notes after each class because will have to memorize the works of Soc founders for exams

All he does is talk talk talk talk talk about whatever pops into his mind...goes on insane digressions sometimes...but never ceases to be entertaining. A pretty easy class although he tests you on nit picky details. I would highly recommend him.

I had him at 8 in the morning, and was never tired or bored. He is very interesting. Tests are not hard if you study. Don't need the textbook unless you miss class. All test material comes from class and he writes everything that might show up on the test on the board. Hilarious, interesting, and teaches you a lot.

He is so kind and funny! He really strikes a nice balance between respecting the subject of Death and Dying but not leaving you depressed and weighed down. His tests are a tricky, but overall a very worthwhile class. Would HIGHLY recommend this!!

He's hilarious, makes class fun & interesting. As long as you go to class and show that you are putting some effort into it, you will do fine. Tests are fairly easy if you study with the exception of the final (harder than his regular exams). he lets you out of class early a good bit.

Great Professor... Not Coming to class is not an option though... Every Test comes from the Notes... Somewhat difficult to figure out exactly what he wants however...
